john53
My next build will be the Hasegawa 1/72 F-4J. Compliments to member Emvar for the deal on the kit, great guy to deal with! I am doing it as either VF-96 Falcons, but NOT Showtime 100, that's done too much, or VF-142 Ghost Riders. I am kind of leaning towards to VF-96 right now. The kit is interesting in that is is a Blue Angels kit with both gray and blue sprues, almost "Matchboxy" in color. NOTE:---can't find decals for VF-142 or VF-96 but I do have decals for VF-74 Bedevilers from Linebacker and Linebacker II---John Edited September 15, 2015 by john53
PhantomPhreakII
VF-142.. VF-96 is waaaaaay overdone (IMHO that is) Harald
john53
I finally got something started, not a lot but progress at least. I built the cockpit and seats. I normally pre-paint then assemble but am trying a different approach. I have an opti-visor and small brushes so I am going to paint and decal the cockpit then paint and add the seats. The reason being I sometimes get glue showing through the already painted parts, this way if I get glue on the parts I am painting anyways, instead of touching it up.---John Edited September 16, 2015 by john53
john53
The cockpit is painted and decaled plus the seats are painted. Time to put it all together.---John
john53
Cockpit all assembled, fuselage halves painted and weighted. Now to close it up.---John
jgrease
I've got that same kit in the stash - looking forward to your build! John
john53
It is a nice kit but you can't trust the instructions, they are for a Blue Angels bird so you are told to cut off or not add certain probes and antenna which should be on a combat plane. It is just a simple matter of finding pictures of the bird you want to replicate and see what the set up was. More pictures later today, need to do some sanding.---John
john53
The forward fuselage is done.On to the rear fuselage. It went together good, I don't care for decals on the instruments, wished Hasegawa had done engraved instruments and dials,I like painting them as it looks better to me. The decals kept curling up on themselves.Outside of that it was pretty painless.---John Edited September 18, 2015 by john53
john53
Front and rear fuselages mated. I have also opened up the appropriate holes in the fuselage for the antennas, as per my reference pictures.---John
john53
Very little done, painted intake interiors.---John
