CF104
Hi All, Here's my first entry into this group build. It's a 1/48 scale F-104C Starfighter 57-928 of the 435th TFS, 8th TFW as it served in late 66 early 67 at Udorn RTAFB Thailand. ikar
Does anybody make intake and wing shields for that aircraft?
DACO Products
Does anybody make intake and wing shields for that aircraft? The intake cover is included in my Starfighter Set, as part of sprue C (which includes also the aft RWR antennas), and wing protection strips can easily be made out of square sprue bars. I just noticed on the picture that the stepladders in those days were foldable, so the "standard" stepladder that's included in my Set will have to be modified at the base. Have fun with building the kit ! Danny DACO Products www.dacoproducts.com Edited September 24, 2015 by DACO Products
Netz
Does anybody make intake and wing shields for that aircraft? The leading edge wing covers are actually scribbed into the wing, just mask and paint. Curt
CF104
Here's a quick update before I leave for camping this weekend. Not too much done other than cleaning and prepping the resin bits, getting the nav and formation lights installed, fit and install the intakes and replacing the circuit breaker access panel with the Cutting Edge resin replacement. I'll be back on Monday with hopefully more progress to follow. Cheers, John Edited September 30, 2015 by CF104
CF104
A little bit of progress today. I decided to have the avionics bay open by using the DACO update set. It takes a little effort to fit it properly but it does look good once in place. I also have the cockpit side panels in place and am ready to start some painting so I can close the fuselage up. I just noticed that the circuit breaker box is backwards but it's just placed there for fitting purposes and will be correctly oriented when installed. CF104
Lots of stuffs going into this build but I can't see no pix! Please check or is it my computer? I can't access ImageShack at the moment so I am assuming it may be down for maintenance. Hope it isn't down for good. Cheers, John
RKic
Oh no! I hope it's only temporary, I have this thread archived for when I get around to this kit
CF104
Oh no! I hope it's only temporary, I have this thread archived for when I get around to this kit I'm dumping Imageshack and going with Photobucket. Can't even log in and this is becoming a more common problem. At least it's early in this build so I can replace all the photo links fairly easily. Crazy Snap Captain
John, Nice work mate. Super clean. Keep it up!
CF104
Just a small update this morning. I've been working on the cockpit and hope to have it completed and installed today. Cheers, John
CF104
While I'm painting the cockpit I decided to assemble the DACO wings and fit the tip tanks to them. The dimensions of the DACO wings are very accurate and the chord is slightly longer than the kit wings. This makes it so you have to modify the tip tanks to fit the new wings. What I do is to trim out the forward part of the wing pocket on the I/B tip tank half. then with my Tamiya saw I extend the slot forward about 1-2 mm to allow the tip tank to clear the wing leading edge. This allows for a very clean fit of the tip tank on to the DACO wing. Now back to the cockpit. Cheers, John
CF104
The cockpit tub is almost ready to go. Just needs a couple finishing touches before I give it a wash and install it. Cheers, John
CF104
Just a quick update. Haven't been at the bench most of the week but here's 2 shots of the cockpit tub with the lower main instrument panel just placed in. It needs to adjusted a bit before being glued in place. CF104
Hey All, Been away from the work bench for a while due to a crazy work schedule the last 6 weeks. Now that I'm back at it I have just finished the cockpit tub and painted the avionics compartment in preparation to close up the fuselage which should happen as soon as I post this. CF104
Small update and then back to the bench. Cockpit is installed and the fuselage is assembled. Now it's down to cleaning up the seams and adding details around the avionics bay. Also have to fit the para-brake compartment too. Cheers, John
CF104
The drag chute compartment is fit and now I can move on to some other details. Cheers, John
Rich in name only
Like that chute compartment. Which set is it from? 2 pieces? Looks like you got the opening in the fuselage just right. I have the kit and this is an inspiration!
CF104
Hey Rich, The compartment is from the DACO Starfighter Improvement set. It's a total of 4 pieces. The outer door, chute compartment and there are 2 braces that still have to be installed. I have the Cutting Edge F-104C detail set and it has one as well but the DACO one is better proportioned.
