Otto
Which is the better kit? The Revell is quite a bit newer but is it better? Or is Tamiya still the King on the block with this kit?
Troy Smith
in this case, Tamiya hands down. the Revell kit has some fixable faults, wheels wrong, so undercarriage too short, prop spinners wrong, leading edge radiators too short, some overdone fabric deatil and funny elevators, maybe rudder. does have a good interior, separate control surfaces and exposed engine, and apart from the above, the basic shape is decent. The Tamiya is Tamiya. There are threads on Brimodeller on this if you want more info. If I feel enthusiastic I'll post links. One detail point NO 1/48th Mosquito has accurate tyres, but now Ultracast some several types. There's a thread on this too. The old Airfix kit is still very good shape wise, and has some good detail for it's day. Supposed to have the edge shape wise over the Tamiya. There have been a load of Mosquito threads on BM, so any questions, fire away. Edited October 12, 2015 by Troy Smith
Otto
Now that you mention it I do remember some issues reported when the kit first came out.
Otto
Is the Tamiya cockpit as nice as the Revell one? The Revell looks very nice. The spinners are simple to re-shape.The landing gear is also easy to fix. but this really makes me want to build a Mossy. who cares what the spinners look like and that it is not a bomber version. I think that the landing gear is absolutely perfect

Kits not to hand, but remember you don't see much in a Mosquito cockpit, it doesn't open, and you see very little through the crew door stick an Eduard zoom set in the Tamiya, add a few wires and details if bomber nose and unless you are taking penlight or macro zoom that will be fine. The spinners are too short, they can be reshaped, but they will still be too short. The landing gear is an easy fix, the wheels are not. I had look for threads, this shows the Airfix (dark grey) vs Revell parts The Spinner problem is obvious, as is the gear leg, the wheels are a funny shape, and a little bit bigger. The Airfix kit is rated as being very well shaped, as was the product of research done for a 1/24th Superkit back in the late 70's that never happened. whole thread http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234979785-627-squadron-november-1944/ http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234964535-148-revell-mosquito-biv-updates/ useful build thread with discussion on Airfix, Revell and Tamiya kits http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234975427-a-tale-of-two-mosquitos-48th-scale-mosquito-fever-decals-on/ the wheel problem http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234944213-mosquito-tyres-in-148th-are-any-accurate/ Ultracast review http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234948179-new-from-ultracast-148-dh-mosquito-wheels/ Note, there are versions of the Mosquito with 4 blade props, so it's possible to build another mossie with AM 4 blade, and have usual 3 blade leftover. Jennings
The only major thing wrong with the Tamiya kits is the rudder is too tall. It doesn't bother some people, but it's there. The cockpit on the Tamiya kit is perfectly acceptable given what you can see of it through all that framework. And before you ask: 4.5" = 2.4 mm in 1/48 Edited October 12, 2015 by Jennings
