flybywire
Hi everyone! Could somebody give me the correct color/paint to use for this particular scheme. I just need the color for the lightest gray shade. One decal manufacturer gave a mixture of 2 paints but when I tried mixing it up, it is still way too dark from the pictures I've seen on the net. I also tried comparing the available Akan colors, just the same they are much darker compared to the pictures. Next in line from the Akan would already be the off-white, but I don't think that is correct. Anybody has done this scheme and got the lightest gray shade correct when compared to the real jet pictures? Please advise. Thanks in advance! http://www.airliners.net/photo/Czech-Republic--/Mikoyan-Gurevich-MiG-21MF/0469919/L/ http://toocatsoriginals.tumblr.com/post/93779952599/czech-air-force-mig-21-in-splinter-camouflage Edited October 18, 2015 by flybywire

Jennings
That was a one-off paint scheme, so unless you can track down the guys who painted it, I seriously doubt you're going to find a specific paint callout for it. Greys are the easiest paints to mix and match yourself. Take a bottle of white, and add a few drops of black to it until it looks like what you see in photos. It's really simple - and no one else will have a model exactly like yours!
dsahling
Just using the Mk.1 eyeball, I'd say a close match for the lightest grey is FS 36622 or FS 36495 (You might need to tint it slightly, but I'd do that with mist coats once its laid down).
Andrew D. the Jolly Rogers guy
Honestly, I'd do a mix of 36495 Light Gray with 36375 (a.k.a. "ghost gray" or "compass gray").
Els
Syhart did these decals and has some paint mixes on the instruction sheet. I don't know if they are correct. Syhart Mig

I mentioned that on my post. It's too dark (compared to the photos), as least to my eyes. :)
flybywire
Does anyone has a modeling reference book that features this specific scheme, I need to know if their nose and main gear bays are sporting a gray or green color? Can't find any picture on the net. Thanks in advance!
Andrew D. the Jolly Rogers guy
I think you would be very safe using gray wells.
seawinder
Hi dsahling! I'll look into those 2 numbers you mentioned. Thanks for the tip! :)/> IMHO 36495 is going to be closer to what you're after than 36622, which has a rather yellowish cast. Model Master does 36495 (#1732). Also Gunze Mr. Hobby Aqueous and Mr. Color acrylic lacquer (both #338).
lesthegringo
I think that the scheme is fantastic, and I would give that a go. What are the decals like to use, do they go down well, prone to silvering, very fragile, that sort of problem? Cheers
lesthegringo
Sorry, also forgot to ask, is that set designed for any particular kit? Eduard? Cheers
