Ivy-5
Hi all. Some times ago I started to work on an FJ-3 in 1/48. I'm currently searching for informations and pics of the rear canopy deck (seems quite busy according to the p. 190 picture in NF 88)and the MLG bay (is it the same as a Sabre wheel bay ?) Tnaks, best regards.
Timmy
I'd love to see some pictures or at least a description of what you are attempting. I've been following this attempt but, sadly, it hasn't been updated in quite a while. http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234981173-north-american-fj-3-fury-148th-esci-with-added-elbow-grease/page-2 You also might find this interesting: http://tailhooktopics.blogspot.com/2015/04/esci-148th-fj-23.html
Andrew D. the Jolly Rogers guy
I used FJ-2 photos from the Ginter book as the basis for mine....
Finn
Some pics here that may help: http://www.flickriver.com/photos/my_public_domain_photos/tags/fury/ Jari
Ivy-5
Hi again, thank you all for your answers. I've been following this build thread on Britmodeller, and read all comments I could on Tailhook Topics (great blog BTW). This is what made me think I should give it a try so I started crosskitting the Esci and Grand Phoenix Furies (it's simpler than it may seem). Jari thanks for the link, there are 2 useful pictures of the rear canopy deck
Timmy
Well - that never occurred to me. I've made multiple stabs at creating an FJ-3 and I've looked at multiple solutions to the problem but I've never thought of something so elegant (and in hindsight, obvious) to the problems of correcting the upper fuselage/tail fin. Paul Boyer
Not sure that it fixes the fin shape though. Still waiting for kit manufacturers to see the light.
Timmy
Come to think of it, Paul may be correct. The fin on the FJ-3 was moved forward from the F-86 series so using the ESCI fin may not work. I'd have to lay it out on the plans to know for sure but in one of my attempts, I cut the horizontal stab off and moved it forward (ala Impatient Pete)http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index.php?showtopic=126887&st=0&p=1309795&hl=impatient%20pete&fromsearch=1entry1309795

It clearly shows the differences in the fuselages.
Tailspin Turtle
I did some research on the question about the stuff behind the headrest, too. http://tailspintopics.blogspot.com/2015/11/fj-3-canopy-details.html

I seem to recall you did one over the F-86E as well. Am I imagining it?

Ivy-5
Hi, thank you all for your inputs. It is not clear on the picture, but the whole tail has been shifted forward and reworked. I will open a build thread in some days.
