FJ-3 questions

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

Some times ago I started to work on an FJ-3 in 1/48. I'm currently searching for informations and pics of the rear canopy deck (seems quite busy according to the p. 190 picture in NF 88)and the MLG bay (is it the same as a Sabre wheel bay ?)

Tnaks, best regards.

I'd love to see some pictures or at least a description of what you are attempting.

I've been following this attempt but, sadly, it hasn't been updated in quite a while. http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234981173-north-american-fj-3-fury-148th-esci-with-added-elbow-grease/page-2

Hi again, thank you all for your answers.

I've been following this build thread on Britmodeller, and read all comments I could on Tailhook Topics (great blog BTW).

This is what made me think I should give it a try so I started crosskitting the Esci and Grand Phoenix Furies (it's simpler than it may seem).

Jari thanks for the link, there are 2 useful pictures of the rear canopy deck

Well - that never occurred to me. I've made multiple stabs at creating an FJ-3 and I've looked at multiple solutions to the problem but I've never thought of something so elegant (and in hindsight, obvious) to the problems of correcting the upper fuselage/tail fin.

Come to think of it, Paul may be correct. The fin on the FJ-3 was moved forward from the F-86 series so using the ESCI fin may not work. I'd have to lay it out on the plans to know for sure but in one of my attempts, I cut the horizontal stab off and moved it forward (ala Impatient Pete)http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index.php?showtopic=126887&st=0&p=1309795&hl=impatient%20pete&fromsearch=1entry1309795

Tommy Thomason's blog has overlays of the F-86 fuselage and an FJ-3. It clearly shows the differences in the fuselages.
