dnl42 Posted November 13, 2015 Share Posted November 13, 2015 (edited) Getting a straight grain is relatively easy. You paint a background color, usually a lighter brown/tan, using enamel, lacquer, or acrylic per your preferences. Once that's dry, you get a stiff "oil" brush and brush a foreground oil pant. The stiff brushes gives you the grain effect. Oil takes a long time to dry, think a week. It also needs a clear coat. The art, of course, is getting other than straight grain. Here's a tutorial.
