Woody_
Hi, Can someone please help me with this. I would like to know what color do you use to paint F-14 antennas ? (like one on beaver tail) It's some kind of biege color, can you tell me some paint numbers from Tamiya or Model Air? Thank you in advance. Woody
Skull Leader
Any number of beige or dark yellow shades would work. Those antennas weathered horribly and were always grungy.
Neeko
Any number of beige or dark yellow shades would work. Those antennas weathered horribly and were always grungy. Having had them in my hands many times, I can say that radome tan was a good start, then weather a bit. The fiber pattern caught a lot of dirt, so they were dirty almost always. Patches or repairs to the fiberglass (particularly on the boat tail antenna cover) would cause a very mottled finish at times. To make things even more interesting... every single aircraft we got from depot rework had the glove vane and boat tail radome painted over, so your options are literally endless. That is very interesting indeed. References to be checked thoroughly then before committing to paint!
Swordsman422
I always use Radome Tan and then weather the hell out of it with grey washes.

We did sand the paint off after a while... the end result wasn't exactly a "factory fresh" look.
TomcatFanatic123
I actually used Chromate Yellow with a teeny bit of black mixed in to darken it ever so slightly.

There has always been an urban legend of a "Do Not Paint" area, like on a blade antenna, being sanded down, repainted, and restenciled "Do Not Paint"... LOL
Skull Leader
The irony would not be lost on me, and I could see some smart-alecked CC officer having that done! Edited November 19, 2015 by Skull Leader
