82Whitey51
Not true, the pod is only required for SLAM-ER. Maverick and Harpoon can be fired using only internal electronics. Hoops Yes, thank you for the correction. Good thing I wasn't a TACCO.
82Whitey51
A bit of an update to this thread... Here are some photos of the P-3A/B sono buoy launch doors. The sono/stores launch system on the A and B models were a lot different than that of the P-3C/CP-140s. To backdate the 1/72 Hasegawa/Revell kit, it's not too hard to do...once you fill in all those sono buoy launch holes on the aft underside. The lower strobe light and flap extension warning stripe is in the same place, so those are good reference points to work from. Trojan Thunder
Thanks for that Andrew. I have just finished a P-3B and got another on the bench. I will have to add the observation window to both. The window was alluded to by a guy who was a Navigator on them. I was trying to figure where it was!

Here's a little better look at the location of the window. Again, notice the lack of the two small Galley windows, an easy fix with the Hasegawa kit is to install them, fill the gap with CA glue and sand smooth. Note: The opening at the bottom of the ""V" is the Marine Marker exit port...basically a smoke marker that could be fired from the guys in the Observer stations. ...and from a little more recently. This was an aircraft we operated at the Naval Research Lab, a modified "B" model. She went to the boneyard about 2 years ago. Alternative 4
First off, apologies for the quality. Here is a selection of Orion's stored in the Desert. My dad remembers seeing the orange and white Orion from when it visited New Zealand in the 70's And a NP-3D Now for something closer to home. One thing we have no shortage of in New Zealand is Orions. Usually the RNZAF Orion's don't fly around with the outer pylons on. \\ And an RAAF bird to finish. Notice the slightly different colored paint.

82Whitey51
Found some pics on deck at Pakistani Naval Station (PNS) Mehran back in 2010. I wasn't suppose to be taking pictures, so, I kept under the wing behind the main landing gear :) online photo storage
11bee
Didn't most of those Paki P-3 get destroyed when the Taliban overran their base?

About a month or so after this they got attacked. I think 87 got destroyed along with one of the dark gray ones. Let me tell ya, we couldn't get out of there quick enough. Once we handed over the keys, they had a little reception/luncheon for us and their equivalent of the CNO wanted us to come to his house for a party that night. We respectfully declined, as we already had flight reservations out of there later that evening. Everyone knew we (American crews) were there, news media and all was covering the event. It made for a less than comfortable approach into PNS Mehran...as the photos below show, any hadji with a MANPAD could of had a nice score that morning. uploading images uploading images They put us up in quarters, right next door to Chinese Air Force personnel...who we were instructed not to talk with. Ya think??!! This is the international airport, off our starboard side about 5 miles away. The U.S. Embassy folks drove us there in an armed escort later that evening around "rush hour"...which, in a city of 24 MILLION with an "M" people, made for an interesting ride! I wish I had shot video of it. uploading pictures Edited November 26, 2016 by 82Whitey51

A-10 LOADER
Thanks for sharing those EP-3E pics Andrew, they'll come in handy for my next build. I'd prefer not to have to scratch-build all those antennas for under the wings and up under the tail, hopefully Caracal makes a sheet with options post 2011 for the JCC Spiral 3 update. 🤞 Steve Edited March 28, 2023 by A-10 LOADER
A-10 LOADER
Can anyone tell me if the SATCOM antenna, on top of the EP-3's fuselage, is round or more "v shaped" like the one on the A-10 ? Steve
