Joel_W
F20D, The S-2 is a stunning model on it's own. The ChopperMan
Bob Beary
Photoshop the acrylic rod out of the first photo and it could pass for the real deal. Great job on that. Bob
A-10 LOADER
Photoshop the acrylic rod out of the first photo and it could pass for the real deal. Great job on that. Bob You beat me to it Bob, I was thinking the same thing. My choice would be the third pic. Outstanding job on the Viking F20D, VERY WELL DONE !! Question though, would the turbine on the refueling pod be spinning while it's in flight or just while it's refueling ? Steve
falcon20driver
Thanks everybody. There are some construction issues that hopefully will get better with time. I used a slightly new painting technique and I'm happy with the results. Steve, I have no idea if the turbine would be spinning or not. I thought about trying to figure out a way to replicate that, but really couldn't think of something that would look good. We'll just say the photographer had his shutter speed set at the perfect amount to make it look that way!
falcon20driver
Ok, I just couldn't wait to see something plugged into the Viking. I know these two never flew together, but... Meanwhile, I've gotten some done on the Bombcat. I glued in the wing gloves and little vents up near front. I also started working on the wings. The directions were a little unclear on what needed to stay and go to build the flaps and slats up. I'll keep piddling with the exterior items while I figure out the front office. Hopefully I can order my Steel Beach goodies next month. Thanks for continuing with this crazy build of mine
A-10 LOADER
Awesome !!! What did you decide to use for connecting the basket to the probe ?? Steve

SARdog82
The Viking looks awesome!! I can't wait to see the final product. I hope mine looks as good as yours
falcon20driver
Thanks guys! Steve, believe it or not the opening of the basket perfectly fits a refueling probe so it stays on its own. I'm still bouncing around some display base ideas for mounting.
jfmajor60
Nice, on first glance I thought it was a photo of the real thing!!
falcon20driver
Is it some cruel joke that the included pilot figures don't remotely fit in the Has F-14?
Jinxter13
Ok, I just couldn't wait to see something plugged into the Viking. I know these two never flew together, but... Patience young padawan...patience...you've got such a good groove going....the wait is worth the reward...(Jeez look who's talking..Ok I'll start practicing what I'm a preaching B) ) Edited April 7, 2016 by #1 Greywolf
falcon20driver
Thanks Clif, the pilots got a primer coat tonight and I'm actually quite pleased. It's something I've not done before so I look at it as a good lesson. I'll have pictures up tomorrow hopefully.
falcon20driver
The crew is nearing completion. I think the helmets are not exactly accurate and my figure painting is not a strong suite, but I'm content. I'll put in a little more weathering and flat coat on them and they'll fit the bill. My Sprue Bros order was placed today so I can really dig into this build now. I've got some good Steel Beach items to add into this. Until then, I'll continue painting and weathering the cockpit then it is off to the races.
Joel_W
F20D, Actually, your figures look pretty good to me. I can't even reach that level the few times I've tried. The ChopperMan
Adam1818
Figures look great!! Sometime down the road I'm gonna have to build this set up maybe with a herc and Canadian hornet!
A-10 LOADER
They look good besides, you won't see much of them once the cockpit is installed and everything is buttoned up. Steve Edited April 7, 2016 by A-10 LOADER
falcon20driver
Alright, back home and back to the bench. I'm trying to get some serious work done this week while we have some rainy days instead of working on the yard. Had some treats waiting for me: S.B. LANTRIN set and in flight wheel set plus a Wolfpack refueling probe I also had this in the order: A little glimpse at my next BIG project. I did some more work on the cockpit and pilots today, but no photos of them. I also started working on the refueling probe: I'm happy with it thus far. Does anyone know if -211 removed their refueling probe doors during Operation Southern Watch? Most photos I've found seem to show them still on. I also started playing with the S.B. wheel plugs: With a little more cleaning up I think they'll really look good and make life a lot easier. The mains seem a little tougher to get to fit, but I think if I remove a small section of kit (pictures later) they'll fit much better. I'm hoping to have the cockpit section built up by the weekend. Joel_W
F20D, I was rather concerned about you with those horrid rain storms literally drowning Houston. Sure hope it's just a normal rain by you. that's a nice bunch of goodies that should really up the appearance of the F14. I'm really intrigued with your next major project: a 1/32 B-17F or G. My word, you Texans really do like 'em big. I'm officially signing up for your build blog. Joel
falcon20driver
Thanks for the thoughts Joel. I haven't been home but the rain hasn't been too bad here. Thankfully that major hail storm missed us by about 20 miles. I was buzzing around your neck of the woods yesterday. Shot 7 approaches into Islip while giving check rides. Darren Roberts
Let me know how the mains fit. When I test fit the originals, I thought the mains fit better than the front. That's funny that you're finding out differently! It happens, though. It's looking great so far.

Joel_W
Whomever designed this STUPID Hasegawa Tomcat is a sadist. It just doesn't fit!! I've never built the kit so I can't say, but I've heard that it's not exactly the easiest of kits to build, but done correctly, does indeed look like a well detailed F-14. Why not try a few google searches for builds on that kit. I'm sure that you'll find a few that had the same issues as you're having, and how they solved them. falcon20driver
Thanks Joel. I've been looking around the Web for help. I believe I've mostly gotten over the cockpit issues. I've never seen a kit where nothing lined up and everything seemed twisted. I'll get pictures up this evening.
