Don
Very impressive and it will indeed be a head turner when done ! Certainly not your average diorama. Great stuff! Don.
Micro
Hopefully not too many people will pick up on that mistake. I sincerely doubt anyone will. The overall build trumps any minor discrepancies like that. Again, I didn't mean to be "that guy", I just wanted to share the info with you. Absolutely stunning work. :)
ST0RM
Wow, that is so impressive. I see the effect you'll go for and it will be stunning. Great job on the water. -Jeff
A-10 LOADER
NEAT!! I have to admit that I was a little worried about the wake behind the carrier when it was first applied, because it didn't have the normal pattern of what one should look like. The paint has "fixed" all that, so you must be getting really excited. I sure am. Thanks Chuck, I am looking forward to finishing this up. Very impressive and it will indeed be a head turner when done :thumbsup:/>/>/> ! Certainly not your average diorama. Great stuff! :cheers:/>/>/> Don. Thanks very much Don. Great job on the water. -Jeff Thanks Jeff I appreciate your comments. Greetings all, Small update for today, Ed and I managed to add some white to the "high spots" of the water to simulate some whitecaps. We also applied the gloss topcoat. Once the gloss dries real good I will be able to add the Island and Radar tower to the flightdeck. Then I will take the top of the display outside for some final shots. Our jointer is down at the cabinet shop until we get a few parts for it so, at this stage of the game, I am at a standstill on completing the wood trim for the cabinet. I'm hoping our parts show up sooner than later and I can finish this thing up. Thanks all for your interest in this project. A-10 LOADER
Mini update for today, I glued the Island and Radar tower to the flightdeck so, the model part of this display is finished !! I am just waiting for the weather to cooperate so I can take this outside and gets shots of it all. On a side note, the jointer will be fixed tomorrow so I can get started on the trim for the cabinet, ( as soon as I buy the lumber ). Probably a few more weeks until this is completed but it should look pretty cool once the trim is on it and all those "extra items" are hanging on the display. Thanks for all your interest. A-10 LOADER
Today's update, Yesterday afternoon I took advantage of the sunny day and took shots of the display outside. While I'm happy with how the ocean looks in the sun, I was not happy with how the jet looked on the display in the sun. The shadow the Tomcat projected made the display look stupid IMO. The scale effect was totally lost. I either need to shoot the display again on a not so sunny day, wait until the sun is lower in the sky or, wait until the lighting in the aviation room is better. Next step is to buy the lumber and start milling up the trim for the cabinet. Thanks for your interest in this project and comments, critiques welcomed. Steve
Adam1818
I still think it looks awesome!! If you had a small light source under the jet it might get rid of any shadows and u could paint a small silhouette of the jet to achieve the effect ur looking for but personally I think u nailed it! JohnS
The display looks really cool, Steve. The sun makes the colors pop. ... Tomcat projected made the display look stupid IMO. I either need to shoot the display again on a not so sunny day, wait until the sun is lower in the sky or, wait until the lighting in the aviation room is better. ... One possibility to get rid of the shadow in the sun, is to hide the shadow behind the plane, e.g. try & take the photos from the direction/angle of the sun. It might take some trial & error at different times of the day to see if that'll work. If you can't get rid of the shadow & you still want photos, I might be able to help. I've had good luck with Photoshop overlaying models on various backgrounds. Here's a link to my recent post with some examples - http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index.php?showtopic=291578&view=findpost&p=2788859. The secret is to take separate shots of the model & the background from the same angle & in the same lighting, & let Photoshop do the rest. Let me know if I can help. BTW, do you recognize the model in this photo? :rolleyes:/> John

I took some shots today in the aviation room, maybe these are a little bit better ?? I'm use to shooting real jets on a real flightline.

striker8241
Fantastic job, Steve! A beautifully built model and a unique and startling setting. The shadows don't matter - your eyes are instantly drawn to the plane and you're imagination puts you in the air above the carrier. It's hard to look away. Very nicely done! Little update for today, All the lumber has been milled up for the display base. I'm now working on getting all the wood trim cut and fitted for the base. Everything will be stained and clear coated BEFORE being applied to the cabinet. It's just the way I always do my trim work, a lot easier IMO. Steve
