McCarran airport 747-SPs

Recommended Posts

I flew out of Las Vegas yesterday AM and noticed two white 747-SPs on the Tarmac area closest to the Strip. They were white with two blue fin flashes on the tail. I believe there were some 767s and other aircraft with the same scheme as well. I thought the SPs were gone a long time ago. Kind of weird looking to see dwarfed-sized 747s. It was the first time for me seeing them.

Who are they?

Thanks,

Chris

Ps: there was also a BA 777 there with its vertical stab removed and placed next to it. Any info on this as well?

The 747SPs and others with the same color scheme should be the Las Vegas Sands ones. The BA 777 should be the one that had the uncontained engine failure on the takeoff roll and subsequent fire a while back.

These 747SPs', along with the 767-300 and a 737BBJ all below to Sheldon Adelson and Las Vegas Sands Corp., which owns the Venetian Hotel/Casino on the strip. One of the 747SP's is an ex-TWA aircraft - the former 'Boston Express'. This is a picture I took of the aircraft a few years ago at San Bernandino International Airport undergoing maintenance.

I saw the SP in Paris le Bourget on Jan 1 st this year, and on several occasion in Hong Kong during the last 2 few years. Knowing they have no parking in Macao that could make sense since they are flying for the casino.

Area 51 transport.

Don't worry, Hillary is going to get to the bottom of all that once in office...you think there's an upcoming "X-Files" mini series coming for nothing?!

Whitey,

Going to Jaxcon next Saturday?

The Area 51 737s were parked nearby. They are white with a red cheat-line down the fuselage. There were 3 or 4 of them.

The 777 has its stab off because it is shored up and on jacks while they replace the heat damaged skins from the engine failure. The stab was removed to keep the airplane from weather vaning in the wind.
