Lcurtis
Hi Guys Does anyone have a couple of decent color pics of a 5N cockpit? Haven't had much luck on the net. Thanks
jbryan911
Here you go. Meier Motors restored this A/C. The page is in German, but weiter at the botton is the next button. http://www.dorst-freiburg.com/index.php/beispiele/chance-vought-f4u-5nl-corsair?showall&limitstart

echolmberg
I'm kind of confused. Did the plane start off its life as an F4U-5, then converted to a -7, then back into a -5? The stenciling at the base of the tail says it's supposed to be an F4U-5N. I was wondering if they were going to add the radar to the wing later on. Otherwise, as it's shown, it appears to be more of an F4U-5 since there's no radar pod on the wing nor a radar scope on the instrument panel. If I'm not mistaken, I think the instrument panel of the -5 had a map slot in it.

Based on the pictures, it was built as a -5N, converted to a regular -5 by Argentina (although retaining some -5N features like the exhaust flash hiders) and now flies in -7 paint after restoration. Argentina took the radar units off and on. Look at the instrument panel in this picture. https://ca.images.search.yahoo.com/images/view;_ylt=A2KI9kOGqK5WhwgApZKS7olQ;_ylu=X3oDMTIzZjRxMDg4BHNlYwNzcgRzbGsDaW1nBG9pZAMwYTU1NjkxOGQ0NmM1ZGY2YWIzYmI3NDQwN2FjYTBjOQRncG9zAzM5BGl0A2Jpbmc-?.origin=&back=https%3A%2F%2Fca.images.search.yahoo.com%2Fsearch%2Fimages%3Fp%3DF4u-5%2BCockpit%2BColors%26fr%3Dyfp-hrtab-715%26tab%3Dorganic%26ri%3D39&w=2591&h=1667&imgurl=www.picturestack.com%2F914%2F22%2F0rXCorsaVqq.jpg&rurl=http%3A%2F%2Fkalkin.foros.ws%2Ft10251%2Ff4u-5-corsair%2F&size=848.3KB&name=%3Cb%3EF4U-5%3C%2Fb%3E+Corsair+%3A%3A+.KalkiN.&p=F4u-5+Cockpit+Colors&oid=0a556918d46c5df6ab3bb74407aca0c9&fr2=&fr=yfp-hrtab-715&tt=%3Cb%3EF4U-5%3C%2Fb%3E+Corsair+%3A%3A+.KalkiN.&b=0∋=300&no=39&ts=&tab=organic&sigr=11c354duh&sigb=13a2frno7&sigi=11bqh2skn&sigt=11064jei6&sign=11064jei6&.crumb=cNHrJvkzyZT&fr=yfp-hrtab-
DonSS3
That's interesting, 3-A-211 looks like it has a Gray instrument panel instead of the more common black one. It does provide an interesting addition to the (then) more modern Light Gull Gray and White finish.
