Any good, trusty, russian on-line hobby stores?

Recommended Posts

Wondering if anybody knows about a russian internet hobby store that carries kits from manufacturers like Modelsvit, Amodel or the like.

I am assuming there must be at least one store with competitive prices for their homeland products?

Thanks in advance,

Jorge.

99% of the time, HobbyTerra is overpriced. Armory is very good and i highly recommend this one i recently used to buy a truckload of AKAN paints; http://www.i-modelist.ru/

Case in point; http://hobbyterra.com/product/aircraft-1-72-russian-fighter-mig-29-9-13-zvezda-7278.html

29 USD for 1/72 Zvezda kit... Sure sure. VS;

http://www.i-modelist.ru/goods/model/aviacija/zvezda/289/37171.html

750 rub = 10USD...

I can literally buy 3 MiG-29's from i-modelist for the HT price. I should set up a shop where people pay me HT prices and i proceed to buy them kits from a different shop and pocketing the change. :D

Modelsua.com.

Never had any problem with Ivan Kolenko but he's in Ukraine, not in Russia. I'm not sure commercial links between Russia and Ukraine is currently very good...

Have sent a mail to Ia-Modelist to ask about shipping cost.

Natalia Novikova replied to my mail. Good English. Average shipment cost 1000-1200 rubles via Potchka Rossii to Europe. 2-4 weeks. Order placed.

Can anybody vouch for ruscale? Tried to buy some tools from 'em, which they said were in stock, to find out by utter 'n' sheer chance that they actually had to be backordered first in the very moment I had to proceed to the payment phase of the online purchase...

Yes I know they are not russian but when I think about Modelsvit and Amodel they are always my first choice. Don't worry too much about kits from Russian manufacturers as far as you order what they have in stock already.

Just checked Armory and found some of their models are at a really moderate prize. However, when I checked the shipping costs to Germany, I found 15 Euros were a bit too much to me... Too bad!

Thanks for all the replies!

Good to see there are more options than I had thought.

Berkut, thanks for the i-modelist link. That place in particular looks very interesting!

Cheers to all,

Jorge.

I can second you on that, the prices are much better in RU.

I was over in Dubna (also managed a trip to Kubinka, which was nice). There was a shop there that sold mostly toys but there were a few kits, the prices was really quite shockingly low. In fact its the kind of price I would expect to have seen on an old Series 2 oe 3 Airfix kit about 20 years ago!

Is there a model shop in G.U.M in Moscow? I wondered round for hours with the missus but found nothing.

http://www.zedval.com is pretty good too. On the other hand, they're limited mostly to Zvezda kits and their own aftermarket stuff.

Zvezda's new MiG-29 is pretty damn cheap in Russia...yet it's being sold for about $30-$40 online. <_</>

I've used Armory without any problems - either with delivery or payment.

One thing to watch though - they seem to advertise a new kit before their rivals - but when you try to order, it says 'On Backorder' - so the item is not actually in stock yet.

Apart from that, I have no issues.

HobbyTerra have a 'Notify when Available' system - which emails you when the item is in stock.

I know what you mean about the new Zvezda kit, I'm wanting to get a couple, but not willing to pay inflated prices.

I got the message that some of my orders (I ordered Rodens AC-123K and two different Learjets from Amodel) are not in their store yet, so I´ll have to wait until they process and ship my order. It´s ok, as long as I get my stuff someday, but it fits in the experience Ken had.

I´m also really considering stocking my order up to reach the 100$-equivalent and therefor free shipping. At the moment I´m at 71 Euros for the three kits with shipping costs of 22 Euros....

Any experience with this policy? Because as I´m thinking of it, I could easily displace the shiping costs with another kit without paying more!
