GMK
Thanks - so eight could be fitted per aircraft?
achterkirch
Thanks - so eight could be fitted per aircraft? That I am not sure but I want to say they were only fitted to the out board pylons. I'll look at my copy of the modern hornet guide later to see if it says how many.
Niels
This I didn't know before - learn something new everyday
Biggles81
Yes usually only fitted to outboard pylons on RAAF classics. Plays hell with the TEF fairing requiring special inspection so not that popular a fit. On all jets in the mid-east though.
GMK
Thanks, guys. Biggles81 - what's a TEF fairing? Would they be on both sides of the outboard fairings?
Biggles81
Thanks, guys. Biggles81 - what's a TEF fairing? Would they be on both sides of the outboard fairings? Trailing edge flap fairing. BOL launchers are fitted to both sides of the outboard pylons.
Niels
The recent photos of RAAF F/A-18A's participating in Red Flag shows them well. Can be found over on Airliners.net
achterkirch
Thanks - so eight could be fitted per aircraft? I finally had time to look. They could be fitted to all four pylons (stations 2,3,7,8). But they were normally carried just on stations 2,8 the put board ones. As to how many per pylon it doesn't say but my guess is normally 2 each
GMK
Excellent guys. Most appreciated.
Biggles81
The following image shows nicely the BOL fit on a RAAF Classic Hornet in the Middle East. They are fitted to both sides of the outer pylons only. http://images.defence.gov.au/fotoweb/archives/5003-All%20Defence%20Imagery/DefenceImagery/2016/S20160298/20160211raaf8198167_0061.jpg.info#c=%2Ffotoweb%2Farchives%2F5003-All%2520Defence%2520Imagery%2F
GMK
Thanks. Great pic - very atmospheric. I just wish we could both outer pylons...
Biggles81
Thanks. Great pic - very atmospheric. I just wish we could both outer pylons... I assume you are saying I just wish we could see both outer pylons. If so they are fitted on both pylon even if not visible in this photo.
GMK
Yep. Glad I provided sufficient context clues to cover for my fat fingers!
