Hawk1270
Hello, Could someone please tell me if the Russian fighter jets of the 1950's and 60's were bare metal or painted over with aluminum lacquer? I'm planning to start building a 1/48 MiG-17PF in Russian markings but it just lists the skin color as "aluminum." I've seen a plethora of photos on the net; some seem painted others seem bare. Any help as to which one? Thank you!
Flankerman
IIRC, they were painted in clear lacquer over bare metal from the factory. As they aged and were overhauled, silver powder was added to the lacquer - giving a flat aluminium finish. At least I think that's what Gabor said???
