Dave Roof
Gentlemen, Does anyone have photos, or know where I can find photos showing the camera set up on the F4F-3P? Thanks in advance, Dave
Slartibartfast
I want to say Dana Bell's most recent book on the Wildcat had some pics of the photo version. I don't have mine at hand to verify. Edit -- book in hand. Page 46 shows side view drawing of vertical F-56 installation in F4F-7. Also shows experimental fairing used on F4F-4 to divert exhaust gases. F4F-4 camera was installed right of centerline while F4F-7 camera was installed left of centerline. Both were directly under the flap pneumatic pressure tank. Then there are photos showing internal and external view of oblique K-25 used in some FM-2s. As an aside, Dana does not list F4F-3P as a model. Same with F4F-4P. Only the F4F-7 was overtly noted as a photo recon aircraft. ltdann
Page 17 of the F4F Wildcat in Action has a drawing of the Fairchild F-56 camera installation common to the F4F-3P and F4F-7. This was done directly from an inboard profile drawing of the -7 Rich
Andrew D. the Jolly Rogers guy
Not to hijack, but I've always found it wonderfully ironic when anyone (myself included) need photos of camera equipment! :P
