Tomcat Tweeker
Ok folks... Next Update! Finished mounting the Nacelles. Not perfect but Close enough for me.... Painted the Compressor Blades. 1st painted with intake color, then using a circle template, painted gloss black, then Vallejo Metal Color Chrome. Installed the blades.... As you can see there are gaping holes on the upper corners. I guess theoretically with the fuselage all closed up it shouldn't matter, But ...... You can see it never the less with the upper fuselage off Cut some Card stock and painted the intake color and glued to the back of the compressors. Forgot to take a pic of them installed but I think ya smell what I'm steppin' in! Lol And it looks a bit better..... Then Closed up the Fuselage.... This was a challenge..... took about 4 hours to do sections at a time.... Started on the rear corners then the front corners... One at a time letting the glue set about an hour each corner. The rear was a pretty shocking fit and it will need some work, The front not so bad..... This is how it looks after initial clean up and prime.... Not too bad, just need to sort out the front 2 seams a touch...... Well that's all for now..... Thanks for looking! Dave
yardbird78
You are making great progress and it looks really nice. I love the detail around the intakes. Darwin

Tomcat Tweeker
Small update... This is slowing a bit due to the filling and re-scribing that is required..... Before throwing the nose on, I added some weight to the nose just to be safe... With resin motors and Vert Stabs, I didn't wanna chance it being tail heavy..... Then sealed with some clear glue.... Resin nose didn't fit that well..... Had to choose if I wanted an under contour on the upper or lower half as it fit perfectly if aligned to either the top or the bottom. I chose a good fit on the top..... Used super glue to attach..... Funny thing is the second the glue cured after hitting it w kicker, I realized if I had taken a thick razor saw and sawed notches along the upper/lower fuselage seams about half an inch back...... I probably could have pulled them closed to make a better fit..... But I left as is.... Used miliput to fill the step..... This is the final result..... Looks good to me.... Aft fuselage seams sorted, But they look kinda bare..... There wasn't any detail at all.... So I randomly threw a few random panels. Looks a bit better... Just wish I could have thrown some rivets on them.... But I just couldn't be bothered LOL Well thats it for now Thanks for looking Dave
Grandboof
Looking good Comming on well Looking forward to the finish.
Flankerman
Can ya recommend another set of wheels? Dave, Armory have just released a few sets of resin wheel for all the Flanker variants.... in both 1/48 and 1/72 scale http://armoryhobbyshop.com/ You need to get the 'Late Su-30' set - with the twin nosewheels :- http://armoryhobbyshop.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=45557 I've always had good service from Armory if you have any concerns about them. Tomcat Tweeker
Hey All... Small update....... Was test fitting the Wolfpack Resin tails and they are gonna be a handful. So I decided to do the metal work on the rear end 1st. Wanna keep the handling of the tail to a minimum after the tails are on..... They will definitely need to be attached before primary paint..... Painted the area with Gloss black then used Vallejo Metal Colors. I'll leave it like this for now... Probably touch it up later in the weathering stage...... Thanks for looking Dave
Fighting Eighty-Four
Great progress so far Dave! Those intakes look awesome!!! One of the most fun and rewarding parts of building my Su-37 was painting the engine areas, and yours is look very nice. Get to use a lot of artistic license to create the heat stressed/burnt titanium look. Keep it up!!!
longmc
Hey Dave, It's really looking good. Are you using the new Vallejo acrylic metallic paint? I was undecided about trying those or the AK Interactive Xtreme metal. My LHS now carries the AK stuff, so I picked up a couple bottles to try out. It's enamel/lacquer based tho, which I'd like to get away from. I'll be very interested to see your results and get your feedback on the Vallejo. cheers, Mike
Tomcat Tweeker
Thanks Mike! Yup they are the new acrylic range.... Only Alclad I used was Hot Metal Blue for tinting. I really like them a lot! I have a couple bottles of the AK.... And they do work pretty darn good, But I too am trying to ween myself from the "Hot" Products! I only would use the AK's if I really needed a super shinny end result.... The Vallejo's are so much better in many ways..... Way Cheaper.... If you arn't in a hurry to get them and they have in stock, Lucky Model is the place to get them... Got all the colors except for Gold and Brass for $60. They Last Forever! Coverage is real nice.... The AK's don't last as long. Might get 2 or 3 Kits painted with the AK's with one bottle of the primary color. Very similar to Alclad. I have painted 2 kits w/ the Vallejo.... 1/48 Mig-21, P-51 With Aluminum as the base color. And numerous trim applications and I still have 3/4 of a bottle left.... The key to using them is thinning them with acrylic thinner.... 75-25% Paint to Thinner is a good starting point and lightly mist. Don't flood..... And it works real Nice! And lastly.... They are tough! You can mask almost immediately using Tamiya tape without de-tacking.... But wait an hour just to be on the safe side.... You can handle the kit without fear of finish wearing off.... So... Yea.... I think they are the shiznet! Get ya some! Dave Edited March 19, 2016 by Tomcat Tweeker
longmc
Wow those are sharp looking! Did you use a primer under it?
Tomcat Tweeker
Thanks Mike! Yup. Just used gloss black over bare plastic before laying down the metal color. Used Gia Laquer on the MIG and SU. And Tamiya X-1 acrylic gloss black on the P-51. Dave Edited March 20, 2016 by Tomcat Tweeker
yardbird78
Those natural metal finishes look terrific. I am going to have to get away from Model Master enamel and Alclad.
longmc
Thx Dave! I found z place on eBay in the US that has them for $10 a bottle shipped. I'm going to pick up a couple bottles. I really am impressed with the Vallejo line. I just got their air war series colors for modern USAF.

Tomcat Tweeker
Thanks Nicholas! Small update Started working some of the PE for the canopy sills. After a little research.... I noticed that the aft Deck area for the canopy was all wrong. Maybe thats why there is no previsions in the kit to have an open canopy.... So I broke out the razor saw and did some cutting and bending of the rear deck.... Here it is after the PE Decking was installed..... A bit crude, But should look ok after all is together... And made a simple actuator out of some Aluminum and Stainless tubing..... Probably not at the correct angle but should work out OK... Thanks for looking Dave
nicholassagan
Nice actuator
Tomcat Tweeker
Hi All.... Not a whole lot of progress done this last week.... Received these new wheels from Armory In Russia (I think).... It was pointed out to me that Brassin set was incorrect for the SU-30..... Had old style main wheel hubs and only a single nose wheel assy.... Thanks Ken for the Tip! These new wheels are pretty sweet! Primed with Stynalrez Black Painted the Hubs Akan Wheel Green Tires were painted Gunze Acrylic Tire Black Moved on to the Canopy.... Masked the exterior Then the interior so I could paint the inside after install of some of the PE. Also to protect the canopy from the PE install process... PE Applied (Cont)

Tomcat Tweeker
Hi Folks... Weekend Update! Didn't get as much done as I would have liked..... The WPD Vertical Stabs ar a real Buzz Kill..... The don't fit worth a ...... Well you know.... There are HUGE gaps on the front 3rd or so of the join to the fuselage... So Trying Milliput to sort..... Just nudged it in the gap and smoothed out with water soaked cotton buds..... We'll see..... Kinda wish I would have just used the kit stabs... Not really too concerned about how far the rudder comes down...... May go that route if I can't get the resin ones fared in...... After mounting the stabs and sorting out the gap which needs overnight to cure..... Decided to work the Resin Nozzles..... Ready for Primer Stynalrez'ed Painted the burner interior Model Air White Grey Painted the Metal Areas GIA Ex Black The T Wheel and Flame holder were painted Vallejo Metal Color Jet Exhaust Glued the Inner Nozzle to the AB Painted the outer Nozzle Mr Metal Color Dark Iron... Still my favorite for Nozzles..... Just a great color! (Cont)
