Steel Beach Spring update

Recommended Posts

It's been a busy school year, but I've carved out a bit of time to get some new items ready for release this spring. Here's what's on tap for the next month or so:

- 1/48 A-7A/B resin conversion for the Hasegawa E kit

- 1/48 F-14 Late A/B/D conversion for the standard Academy Tomcat kit

- 1/48 RA-3B conversion for the Trumpeter Skywarriors (this is really a rerelease, but it's been out of stock so long it might as well be a new release  )

- 1/48 EA-3B supplement (this is used in conjunction with the both the current SB EA-3B releases - it allows you to use another kit besides the TA-3B release)

- 1/48 F-14 Late A/B conversion for the Revell F-14A kit

- 1/48 A-7 external fuel tanks for the Hobbyboss kit

- 1/32 F-4G vinyl wing stiffener plates

- 1/32 F-18F ACS coaming (again, this is a rerelease but it's been OOS a long time)

Some projects I have in the works include an A-6B Mod 0 and Mod 1 conversion in both 1/48 and 1/32 scales as well as a set of conformal fuel tanks and enclosed weapons pod for the Hasegawa 1/48 F-18F Super Hornet. If you've got any other ideas, please send them my way. I can't promise I can make them happen, but if it's within my casting ability, I'll sure try. As always, your business and support is appreciated!

Following the theme of the enclosed weapons pod, how about CFTs for the Super Hornet as well?

Think he said those were coming...

And I would love to build one of those. Let me know when they come out or if you need a test builder. Lol.

Awesome sets Darren. I could've used a nice set of replacement tanks for my HB A-7K build. It seems accurate drop tanks are getting harder to come by now days?, even with advances in CAD design!

Nice list Darren. Really appreciate your efforts to keep us in resin.

As for suggestions, not even sure if this is possible. I was thinking that some sort of upgrade for the Hobby Boss series of A-7 Corsair kits. Well mostly the intake as it sucks. Literally

That intake sure bugs the heck out of me and I am sure it does that to others too. The issues of course are transferred from its big brother but Hobby Boss issued those 1/48 two seaters which I would sorely love but I can't buy them. Yeah I know the canopy is also a little screwy but to be honest I can live with that. Was not aware about the drop tank but that is good to know.

I read somewhere that a modeller used the old ESCI Corsair kits to correct the HB kit but I am not convinced that that is an improvement. I for sure don't want to burn a Hasegawa kit.

Probably a lot to ask but as I always said, you don't ask, you don't get :)

Hi Darren, Have you ever considered doing a forward fuselage correction for the HB TA-7 Corsair's in 1/48?

I've toyed with it, but I'm not sure it's within the realm of my meager casting capabilities. I really wish Chris at Zactomodels would do a master for the HB A-7 series. Most of my parts are very simple. That intake would start to get pretty complex. I'll take a look at this summer and see if what it would involve. I might surprise myself!

Well hope springs eternal :)

I tried to figure out what I need to do it and even toyed with somehow scaling down Zactoman's 1/32 version. Did not get far.

Maybe you can start with a 1/48 Hasegawa A-7 kit now that you have the other parts in your stable.

Had the AH-1 during their active time FODs used? If they did, what do you think about it, Darren? The 1/48 Revell/monogram AH-1S has a real aweful exhaust, a PITA for sanding and filling to make disappear the seam.

That sounds like an interesting idea. I'm not a big helo guy, so I'd need some help with reference and such.

Hi Darren,

What do you think about casting a tail hook cover fairing for early Intruders, aka the A-6A? Also, I'd like to second somebody's suggestion for a tail hook for the Academy F-4. The kit piece is pretty anemic. Also, maybe some JHMCS sensors? Just throwing some ideas out there. Appreciate what you're doing - keep up the great work!!

I hadn't thought about that. I'll look into it. In regards to the F-4 tailhook, take a look at this:

The absolute specialist for the Cobra helo is: Floyd S. Werner, Jr.!

Maybe you can work together and bring a nice add-on for the Monogram kit? (In my opinion, also the seats are not so well detailed...some better shaped resin seats would be great).

Sorry was just doing a search on the site for AH-1 stuff and found this.  I did not answer this question,   I have the new inlets for the AH-1S/F as well as the new exhaust which you won't have to fill because I did it for you.  Check out www.WernersWings.com  I got decals and other things for that kit as well.

I just looked up what they look like. That would be an easy one. Consider it done.

Any news on the JHMCS sensors? Would you be doing the helmets as well in 1/48? And maybe DASH helmets as well since many countries are using those?

Hi Floyd,

I know about your great stuff! I have the resin exhaust already besides other nice parts. They are reserved for a AH-1 from the jap. army.

But I will have a look at the new inlets. I agree, checking out www.WernersWings.com is always worth the effort to get nice improvings for some helo modelling project!
