Fine point scriber

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know where I can find a really fine point scriber? I've looked around but most of the ones I've found aren't really fine/needle-like point scribers. I know I can use a needle chucked in a pin vise but I want something a little more durable.

Any help will be appreciated.

Hi,

You might like to try getting hold of a Holly Line Engraver from Alec (name of the company). They come in 0.1, 0.15 and 0.2mm sizes. They look a little flimsy, but they are very strong and also very sharp. They are made in Japan, and I have no idea where you might be able to get them in the USA.

I've had good success with this:http://www.hlj.com/product/HSGTT-1/SupThey even give you a small squarish piece of sharpening stone to grind & sharpen the point ( that small orange-ish thing you see on the bottom left of the package)http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10022196http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/image/10022196a/20/1 :cheers:/>

Thanks guys. Yes, I have both of those tools and they sure are great. I guess the needle in the pin vise is the way to go for what I, trying to do. I just need find good needles.

I use a JLC razor saw, Bare Metal Foil scriber, and a regular sewing needle in a pin vise. I tried sewing machine needles, but found they didn't fit well in the pin vise with their "D"-shaped chuck shank. I thought about cutting off the shank, but the shaft was triangular, which also didn't fit.

The Diamond Tip Scriber available at www.micromark.com is what you're looking for. It's made før scribing hair width lines. My workhorse scriber is the UMM SCR-01, but as far as tiny lines goes the diamond tip is the way to go. It's a bit pricey but well worth it.
