galileo1
Does anyone know where I can find a really fine point scriber? I've looked around but most of the ones I've found aren't really fine/needle-like point scribers. I know I can use a needle chucked in a pin vise but I want something a little more durable. Any help will be appreciated. Rob
Jinxter13
If I'm on the same wavelength as you, I think the closest to what you want is a pin-vise/sewing needle (of your choice) combo...that way you select exactly the size point you prefer.
plasticWerks_JL
I cut a needle with some wire cutters and s stuck it in a spare xacto blade holder, and it works pretty well, maybe give that a try?
Chris L
As above . Remove the eye of a needle , drill hole in wooden dowel and insert. I t can been sharpened as many times as you want. Cheers, Christian
Grey Ghost 531
I chuck a sewing machine needle into a pin vise. Sewing machine needles are stiffer and harder than regular hand sewing needles since they're made to poke holes in fabric a billion times. (or so)
galileo1
Dave, where do you get those types of needles? That's the kind of stuff I need. The regular needles I have aren't very good. Thanks much! Rob
JackMan
I've had good success with this: http://www.hlj.com/product/HSGTT-1/Sup They even give you a small squarish piece of sharpening stone to grind & sharpen the point ( that small orange-ish thing you see on the bottom left of the package) http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10022196 http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/image/10022196a/20/
plastic-stasher
Hi, You might like to try getting hold of a Holly Line Engraver from Alec (name of the company). They come in 0.1, 0.15 and 0.2mm sizes. They look a little flimsy, but they are very strong and also very sharp. They are made in Japan, and I have no idea where you might be able to get them in the USA. Derek

dnl42
I use a JLC razor saw, Bare Metal Foil scriber, and a regular sewing needle in a pin vise. I tried sewing machine needles, but found they didn't fit well in the pin vise with their "D"-shaped chuck shank. I thought about cutting off the shank, but the shaft was triangular, which also didn't fit.
Sebastian Haff
The Diamond Tip Scriber available at www.micromark.com is what you're looking for. It's made før scribing hair width lines. My workhorse scriber is the UMM SCR-01, but as far as tiny lines goes the diamond tip is the way to go. It's a bit pricey but well worth it.

F-16
Here is an Ebay listing for Diamond Tip Scriber to give you an idea on what types are available and price. Ebay Diamond Tip Scribers Take a look at the 90, 75 and 60 degree scribers on that page, about half way down. Scott CNJC-IPMS Edited March 21, 2016 by f-
