Bigasshammm
Was going to hit the decals today. But I got distracted with my new toy.
Bigasshammm
Bottom has been done for a few days. Been busy doing a bunch of things maybe start on the top and sides tomorrow. Cartograf decals are so nice.
Tom G
Looking good. I love the shark mouth. I am looking forward future installments. You're in the home stretch. Tom
Bigasshammm
Finally put the rest of the decals on yesterday. All decals should be Cartograf. About to put another layer of future on to seal the decals then will do the washes later. I still have to paint the tires but otherwise most of the remaining work is going to be weathering. nickdanger
Looking good. How hard are you going to weather it?
Bigasshammm
Looking good. How hard are you going to weather it? Start with some washes. See how it looks after that. I may chip some paint with pencils if I can find good pics otherwise it may just be washes and maybe some chalk after the flat coat.

Bigasshammm
Flat is sprayed. Unmasked the canopies and cockpit. Had a weird reaction with the sponges I used to close up the cockpit so I have some cleaning up to do in there. Few tough ups. Started working on the access door. Am trying to add the locking mechanism with the supplied pe but it's proving troublesome. Prop is together and I dipped the blades in yellow. Not the straightest way to do it but it's easy and looks fine. It'll probably cost me in a contest but so be it. Still have to paint the tires and add a lil weathering to the gear legs. Bigasshammm
Canopy and door installed. I got the other gear door weathered and clear coated so I can get the legs on here shortly. That may be about the last bit needed. Did some subtle weathering exhaust staining. Couldn't really see any period photos showing any but I saw a pic of a restored spit in these markings so I used that as a guide. Yes it's restored but engines all run similarly. It's very faint anyway. Final pics soon.
Bigasshammm
She done. Only thing I can find that I didn't add is a little tiny pe antenna under the wing. There's no way that doesn't get broken or bent so forget it. Turned out pretty good if I say. Not bad for my first aircraft in 2 years. Also my first completion for 2016. Slacking. More... Bigasshammm
Lol finger pic That's all. If anyone sees anything I missed let me know. It really looks better in person than pics I take terrible pictures. Been fun Kris Edited June 13, 2016 by Bigasshammm
nickdanger
That is a good looking Spitfire. Spitfire + Sharkmouth = hard to beat.
Bigasshammm
That is a good looking Spitfire. Spitfire + Sharkmouth = hard to beat. There was a different shark mouth on a later Grey Nurse. I wonder if anyone does decals for it. Just a subtly bigger shark mouth. Thanks. Was a fun build. One of my favorite planes.
nickdanger
I know the one you're talking about. I like the version you did better. The other, bigger one looks borderline goofy. I also noticed that you had your Aces of Spades upside down and I thought that you had made a mistake. But it turns out I did when I built my Grey Nurse with the cards facing upright (below). Bigasshammm
The markings guide pointed out to make sure the aces were upside down. I initially didn't paint the white band before the tail all the way around so I cut up one of the stars n bars decals and finished it off with white decal. Can't tell the difference. Ventura decals out of New Zealand did some time ago 1/48 I should have one of the later ones leftover if that helps Congratulations on a job well done.
