My Spit finally showed up in the mail today, so I'm in!

I've had these decals in my stash for a long time and have been dying to use them, but never have seem to gotten around to it, so this is the perfect opportunity. I'll be building the markings at the top, I'd considered the shark mouth because it looks cool, but I have nothing in my collection with Torch markings.

Not much, but it's a start.

Tomorrow I plan on painting and weathering the cockpit, hopefully by Sunday I'll have the fuselage closed up. I'm not going crazy with AM.....I was planning on it.......but the only Merlin I have in my stash doesn't have the tropical filter, so I'll only be adding AM flight controls and wheels.

Well, the interior is mostly painted, I need to do some minor touch up. Tomorrow I hope to get the wash on and hit it up with a silver pencil to cap off the weathering so I can close it up. I really wish I'd have invested in a PE set, I didn't have the right interior set in my stash, I didn't even have appropriate belts. Oh well, maybe next time.

Thanks AX

The interior is finished and weathered. I'm going to wait until tomorrow at my club meeting to close up the fuselage, that will give me something to do there. I didn't realize until I uploaded the pictures they are a little out of focus.

Looks good I'm building WD*D but in 1/32 scale,if you have closed up the fuselage already then it does not matter but the crowbar was either steel colour or green, the red ones are post war.

Cheers

I've removed all of the kit flight controls, next up I'll remove the resin stuff from the big chunks, (technical term), and wash them really well. It's going to take some careful sanding and testing to make sure the aileron attach points fit right, the directions are pretty vague other than, "sand flat". I'm going to drop the horizontal stabs to a rest postion.

Btw, the wing surfaces aren't cemented yet.....

The fuselage is attached to the wings, what can I say, Tamiya, no seams to fill. I do however need to do a minor amount of sanding and filling at the aileron attach points for the AM, not bad though. I also attached the rudder and the elevators in deflected positions. I'll attach the ailerons after I've filled.

Coming along nicely.

So do you think that the AM control surfaces were worth the extra trouble?

If they don't come separate I usually do surgery on the kit parts. Granted on this one I didn't do the ailerons and the elevators are just a little dropped.

Oh no, the elevators and the rudder look great, and were easy to do, I'm just talking about the ailerons, the fit was fiddly, the instructions were vague, and the fit is a little off.....although that could be my fault, but I blame the unclear instructions :woot.gif:

Ailerons attach points are filled and sanded, and the ailerons are in place, if you fit them in straight, there would have been big, noticeable gaps, so I deflected them a little more than what I saw in most pictures, I think it looks ok.

I've hit a snag, I accidentally broke the aft canopy, so I'll have to order a vacuform. I have a few odds and ends I can do till it shows up.

Alright, after a little over a month out of town, I'm back, and work has resumed. I'm getting ready to give it a light wash with soap and water, and can start painting this weekend.

Yeah, I go out of town a lot, and when I come home I have to balance between what I NEED to do, and what I want to do, so models take a little longer sometimes. Plus I'm building a B-17 for a diorama at the aviation museum my model club meets at, and I'm trying to finish that before the next meeting. Decals are going on the Spit tonight, at least some of them.
