mam-07grublo
Hello, it's been quite a while since my last project. Unfortunately I've recently been stuck in a rut where I seem to start a new project only to see it slowly in the unfinished pile at the far end of the room... In an attempt to get back my confidence, I've decided to build something simple and fast; Trumpeter's 1/48 Me-509, a paper what-if design of the evolution of the venerable Bf-109. Compared to the conventional layout of the Bf-109 the Me 509 comes in a attractive sleek mid mounted engine design similar to the do-335 and p39 airacobra. Here is the box... Untitled by df0084, on Flickr Suddenly, struck by a stroke of genius (or stupidity); I decided to make it a themed build.... I will now be pairing it with the equally Hasegawa's 1/48 Kyushu J7w1 Shinden. Both are advanced late or after war designs... why not? plus i get to reduce my stash in one fell swoop. The kit is a nice modern CAD-designed thing that comes with a photetch fret, a reassuring item of China's industrial prowess. the kit goes together smoothly and the panel lines are fine however it does lack the overall surface detail you can see in Hasegawa or Tamiya kit, Untitled by df0084, on Flickr Untitled by df0084, on Flickr Untitled by df0084, on Flickr One advnatage of these CAD engineered kits is that it all assembles together like a puzzle. More updates coming soon!
Silenoz
nice work in the cockpit. Seatbelts me be a little more messy. PE tends to we more workeable after annealing (heating it in a flame, but watch out for the thin parts, that they don't burn away) Will you rescribe the shinden? (thought this one has raised lines) Edited April 7, 2016 by Silenoz

I'll be taking your tips the next time I use PE :)/> For the shinden, definitely! Edited May 24, 2016 by mam-07grublo
mam-07grublo
Hi guys its been a while, Not much updates as the construction of the kit is gone with not much problems just filling up a few seams and sinkmarks here ad there. Untitled by df0084, on Flickr Untitled by df0084, on Flickr the join between the wing and the fuselage at the bottom of the plane needs putty work as there is a warpage issue. Untitled by df0084, on Flickr For a tricycle plane, weights are a must in the nose. Next up is what i consider the toughest part of the kit, the dreaded luftwaffe spinner! I went through 3 tries at this before I cheated and made my own masking based on an Eduard template, lol. Untitled by df0084, on Flickr Untitled by df0084, on Flickr [ Untitled by df0084, on Flickr Looks good! Lucky for me, at that time it was the 3rd attempt and I already made the decision to stop wasting time on it and to get it on with the rest of the build. Untitled by df0084, on Flickr Comparison with my previous attempt. Horrible.... Thanks for looking!
