:woot.gif: I just sold my KP kit + the Cutting Edge flap/slat/exterior and nozzle sets for $140...

congrats, that's good money. i did the same, last year, when i had confirmation that the subject will be bring from (at least)two different maker!

i'm also glad i'd never invested in the Ciro twin seater conversion set (even if i'd been very tempted from time to times then...)

Some chance for make the peruvian version, using this new kit?

not without some major (but doable) scratch building. (the whole rear-end, fuselage, tail and engine.(plus smaller details)... that being said, for once, the modular approach of KH makes easier that conversion...)

The breakdown actually makes you wonder if an R29 engined model is planned anyway. We can but hope.

Here is a scan of one of the painting guides in the kit. Time to break out the red markers.

So AT THIS POINT, who's ahead ... Kitty Hawk or Hobby Boss?

IMHO Kitty Hawk. HB windscreen shape is likely to be somewhat questionable.

And I like KH's lowered slats and flaps option.

AT THIS POINT, seems like Kitty Hawk is ahead... at least in two area : the windscreen looks better... and it is already available! (at least on some Ebay sellers)

Fuselage is broken into three pieces. So six total pieces that need to come together with no steps or gaps?  Why???

My guess would be to make it easier to produce different versions. Different nose for an Su-22, etc.

Two reasons:

1. So the kit can fit into the small boxes they use.

2. Easier to make other variants.

For the different engined versions that the aft fuselage has different profile and they looks like the want to be able to have the aft fuselage come off to display the engine. Also the seperate forward fuselage allow a two seat forward fuselage.

But this is just my speculation.

I'm no Su-17/22 specialist but there's something that bothers me in the fuselage profile. Assumption: drawings used in painting directions come from the CAD model.

Isn't it supposed to be that way, though?  Or am I missing something:

It's not a concave on a bottom it's just a kink - forward part of fuselage including cockpit area is kinked down to provide better visibility for the pilot. It's a main difference comparing to earlier Fitters. Just look at peruvian Fitter for example: http://www.airliners.net/photo/Peru-Air-Force/Sukhoi-Su-22/1223725

All earlier Fitters up to version Su-17M-2 have straight fuselage in  Su-7's style
