Recommended Posts

Martin I know the news Of the Tamiya Release must have sent a cold shiver down your spine but please please keep it on schedule. The market is certainly big enough to have 2 new tooled F-14's and your's will be An OUTSTANDING Kit. I base that opinion on what you guy's have done to date. a handful of Beautiful Kits.....So Speaking for myself I know that I WILL BUY YOUR KIT and in QUANTITY.

I told my LHS to get me two of them as soon as they hit the market. Also told him I might want a third, but may wait for the "D" model.

From the very first look of the Tamiya sprues it seems that the kit is fairly simple. I am sure AMK can produce a stunning model with all the available options for the wing lifting devices plus a pair of engines!

Can't wait Martin!

I'm looking forward to both kits, myself. Can't wait for the AMK release, I'll definitely be getting my grubby paws on a few, but I'll be copping a few of the Tamiya offerings as well. This is a great time for Tomcat modelers!

I'll be glad to buy both.

But AMK better sharpen up those panel lines, sharpen some of the detail and do something about there distribution or the only people buying them will be us.

Tamiya is the King of simple build, accurate and well engineered kits with distribution that covers the world.

I found one shop in Australia after two days looking who had a Mig-31 in stock so I could buy my third the first two I ordered from Sincere.

I think I could find ten shops in ten minutes with Tamiya F-16's or any other Tamiya kit.

If people think Tamiya will be expensive think again any time they have released into a congested market it has been brilliant value.

Think 1/32 Mustang at 8000 yen ie 65USD at release..

It's a crowded market good luck to AMK..

If AMK can maintain this standard, then they will get my money, hopefully, they will not just stick to mainstream subjects...

They are already setting the bar....

A pity Tamiya have dropped the ball with the F-14, I expected better from them..

Thank you all sincerely for the kind support and messages of support you have all shown on this and other F-14 Tomcat threads.

To be honest, we knew about Tamiya sometime last year but we are both looking to different markets.

The one most important thing out of all of this is that the modeler (me too) will very soon get a great choice and “you pays your money” as they say. We have always been about the modeler in our company and this is great news for us all alike. We get to choose what we want for our budget, expectations and quest for quality. Competition just makes us all better right?

I can’t go into all the details we are going to include with the AMK F-14 series just yet but you can be assured of some things:

The AMK F-14 will contain new technologies just like the MiG-31’s. But we will go further than that for this kit. One piece missiles and weapons will be included (of course). Slide mold techniques will be used for weapons and some kit parts again. Flight surfaces will be posable (for take off or landing dioramas), great engineering which will make this kit a joy to build (our “Easy to Build” ethos). Decals will be of an extremely high standard and the finest quality materials used for both the tools and plastic.

We are also working with a secret partner to ensure that this kit is as good as it warrants to be. More on that in due course.

Now, Mr Sio and the team in Macao are working very hard to bring this to you but, as always, we intend only to bring this to market when we (and our specialist advisors) are happy that the kit is as good as it can possibly be. If this means we are later than others then so be it. If we are earlier this means nothing either, it just means we are happier sooner.

Thanks again for your support and patience friends.

Cheers and thanks very much again you lot!

I could reply to you all separately in this thread, save to say you’re all quite right in what you say. There is quality coming and the time for Tomcat fans in now approaching.

Modelers will always vote with their wallets. I expect some interesting reviews in the months ahead.

We have a new partner in Australia but his kits have yet to land. It is up to the retailer / distributor to update their websites etc. I hear what you’re saying but we are still a young company and these things take time. Winning a “Kit of The Year 2016” at Nuremberg helped recognition of the brand but again, these things take time.

I have a meeting next week in Oslo, Norway so I am hopeful of a Scandinavian importer soon.

i'd come to the same conclusions as you...

Tamiya targets big sales volume fast, with a simple easy pleasant kit...with a Jolly Rogers aircraft boxart (which is always a winner) ...Tamiya will even sells to those who don't build airplanes, and make them love it!

on the AMK side, if they are pleased with what they are seeing with their MiG-31 sales figures, then they can go forward without hesitation! their niche market is already conquered... if they wanted way more, then they'll have to fight the big guys...

You've made this evaluation based simply on a basic build of a pre-release test run kit and a few shots of the sprues?

That's remarkable, I wish I had your superhuman ability of seeing the future and all possible outcomes.

The market can handle 2 new F-14 kits folks, it's not a end of the world free-for-all where you are personally harmed if another kit is better than the other.

Throwing a hissy fit and screaming about things is how we "encourage" model companies to not take risks or produce new kits.

Martin thanks for posting and filling us in on your plans, well as much as you can. Much appreciated, well to me anyway. I am sure the plastic model business is very competitive and I believe even more so when you look at some of the prices for the model kits. If it was an easy business, everyone would be doing it right? As you say you are a young company and things take time to establish yourselves. I also like that you will stay on the schedule that you set and not be pushed by other announcements/competition.

Having said all that, I will continue to support your efforts to produce nice kits for us. I have the MiG 31 on order and looking forward to the F-14. I already have all of the other brands in 1/48 (Hasegawa, Monogram and Academy) so maybe I am crazy to consider picking up the AMK and Tamiya versions.

Hi Martin! I hope in due time you'll be able to point out the major differences in your F-14s from the Hasegawa's (I'm concerned only with the Hasegawa) so that I'll be able to figure out whether yours is a "must-buy" kit. I had built a Hasegawa F-14 and found it to be satisfactory, at least for me; and still has 2 kits in my stash. I just need to know if yours is much better in terms of feature on the main airframe.

Martin@AMK, thank you so much for your patient replies as always. I have bought the Mig 31 kit, despite not really being interested in that particular airplane; I bought it purely to support a company which I truly admire. If you sold caps, t-shirts etc I would buy that too; not kidding. I am so relieved that you are still continuing with your f14 kit; My real peeve with the hasegawa kit was having to source weapons, and tamiya gone and done the same thing. The tamiya kit I'm sure will be great but I know which kit I will be buying.

No.. I haven't, i read a couple of reviews from Shizuoka.... and my opinion has nothing to do with anything to do with pre release

Oh , btw, my opinion, in no way constitutes a " hissy fit".. just because you don't agree, or haven't read further reviews..

If companies can't take potential criticisms, then maybe they aren't listening to what buyers would like

Apart from which, your sarcasm isn't very adult in nature , and I have no obligation to subscribe to your interpretation of how any of us should

"encourage " said companies should take risks, they do that as a part of doing business.

Furthermore, your dramatic inference of harm is a bit way off, as the market, as such, is a " free for all", as they vie for buyers, and we all choose

what we wish to buy, based on personal dislikes etc......

I will go with AMK.

3 reasons:

The MiG-31 is amazing!

I never see Tamiya reps on here communicating with the customer.

The MiG-31 is Amazing!

Bash me if you please...
