E7 X-Wing Astromechs

I've been picking a bit at the Bandai T-70 X-Wing. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think BB-8 was the only "new-generation" astromech in the film with the X-Wings, right? I think almost all the other pilots had R5 units, definitely visible in the scenes on the ground at the base. One of the aerial combat shots over the water shows a rear view of one with an R2 dome as well.

So, anyone else consider doing their T-70 with an R5 head, or an R2? Since Poe's would have been the only X-Wing with a BB unit, I'm surprised the Bandai kit only offers the BB as the astromech option.

The same thing has bugged me. Poe said BB-8's one of a kind. The T-70 kit would be accurate for the beginning of the movie before it gets blown up on Jakku. I kind of wondered why Poe didn't have his black T-70 there though.

I am probably going to pick up one of their X-wings and swap out one of the astromechs there for BB-8 when I build mine.

I believe the R4 unit in Poe's X-Wing was used when BB8 was still missing from the mission on Jakku.

EDIT: IIRC in one of the novels Poe meets with General Organa prior to the Jakku mission and its decided that in order to keep a lower profile and confuse potential spies Poe's usual black X-Wing was to be left behind.

Also thinking of swapping except I don't have one to swap for....wondering if I can scratch build one, and if so, what kind would I do, an R2 or an R5? Hmmm.....

IIRC, the Fine Molds X-wing comes with both styles. If you would like, I'll check one of my kits and I can send you one.
