Getting down to the finer details on the wings.

The decal provides a convenient way out for decaling all the fuel ports and tank access doors in one swoop. You can see the carrier film here.

I've elected to forgo the battle with carrier film "silvering" for such a spread-out decal. I found a red strip sheet in my decal library and used a punch-n-die set to make the fuel caps individually.

All the markings in place... Artist oils used to highlight the wing panel access doors.

Distinctive weathering of the DC-8

There is an actuator in the low-speed ailerons that causes a lot of blow-by on the inboard surfaces...

Other than a few streaks from the access panels, the upper surface of the wing stays fairly clean.

The bottom of the wings and fuselage is another story. I still had to throttle back. Didn't want to do to much in such a small scale.

All that's left is the blade antennas and it's done.

Wrapping it up! Just a few tweaks and it's done!

Working on the base. Sheet Styrene piece.

Looked at some picks on the net of large airports to give me an idea of direction in patterns and color.

pressed Plywood base, sanded, filled, sanded, primed, sanded again, repeat, then painted RED

Few more details added to the bases surface. It's pretty much finished. A few tweaks on the jet, i.e. polish the fuselage, and dull coat the anti-glare panel under the cockpit windows. will call it done as well.

Hope it measures up at nationals. ;-)

Wow, what a great model. It's nice to see such realistic weathering on model airliners (which in RL are usually pretty grubby) instead of just another immaculate aircraft without even a single smudge of dirt/oil. Those (IMO) look like nothing more than toys.

Congrats!
