Where is detailed info about Sherman Wet Storage?

Recommended Posts

Pardon three (3) posting in a row but I have the time this morning before I return to my man cave project. I've researched a lot of sites and have not found much about the Sherman wet stowage system.

Can anyone suggest a good book or internet reference for the wet stowage system? I have a Asuka/Tasca M4A3E2 kit and Tank Workshop kit I'd like to build.

There are a few books to buy and some sites provide glimpses such as:

"The M4A1 (76)W, M4A2 (76)W, the M4A3(75)W, The M4A3 (76)W tanks all had the improved wet ammo racks. This change included moving all main gun ammo into the floor of the hull under the turret. These ammo racks were also surrounded by water filled jackets. Early production wet tanks retained the turret basket, and had hatches that could be opened to access the hull ammo racks, later they only installed a half basket, and eventually removed the basket floor entirely."

Excellent references (I own this amongst other books but this one doesn't cover the wet storage and I did not find it in the site above.

This is another great reference site:

As for books, Allied Command published the Military Vehicle Workshop Series which focused on interior illustrations from manuals. There were a few Sherman based titles among them but they seem to be out of print. Since they were paperback with a plastic spiral comb binding, hopefully they are cheaper to find that the Ampersand Encyclopedia (only one half of the expected work).
