Snowbird3a
Does anybody know what after market tires and wheels are out there for the Kitty Hawk AT-6 I want something with wheel covers, and other than smooth tires that came with the kit..... Thanks There's no dedicated T-6 wheels but if were I, I would use P-51 Mustang wheels/tires.(and there's loads of them) Tony
Don923
I thought of those too Tony, (thinking P-51C) and might just use those, but I was looking for a set with wheel covers.... Thinking maybe a set of P-47's might work. I really purchased the kit for the R-1340 and engine mounts to use on my Silver Wings 1/32nd scale Stearman kit that I wanted to build into a Bull Stearman crop-duster sprayer,But the kit looked so good I thought I would build it up to give to a friend who has a SNJ that has let me fly it cross country for him. I have already built a Bull Stearman in 1/48 using both the new Revell Stearman, and using the wheel set from the Revell AT-6/SNJ kit it worked out great the Revell AT-6/SNJ wheel set had the wheel covers I was looking for, I later purchased a ayers R-1340 instead of using the Revell one. I ordered a after market R-1340 in 1/32 scale but you had to build up the pushrod covers and found the Kitty Hawk R-1340 already had them on their R-1340 that was included in the kit. Now since I am building the 1/32nd scale AT-6 I found a Kitty Hawk Kingfisher with a R-985 I think the stearman will end up being a 450HP stearman like I sprayed with in 1976. CF104
P-47 wheels/tires are almost 6" larger in O.D. than T-6 or P-51 wheels/tires. An almost perfect match for the T-6 wheels with the 'hub cap' would be from the P-40. They match the wheel/tire dimensions much better than anything else out there. Don923
Yes great John, I do think those would be a better match I will go look for a set of them, I hope I don't have to buy a 1/32nd P-40 kit. but sometimes like in my R-1340 the kit is cheaper than the after market engine to buy

Don923
Confused are those brass wheel covers, or mask to keep from getting paint on the wheels while you paint the tires. I am looking for wheels with wheel covers, never seen a T-s or SNJ without the covers, and I've seen plenty
Don923
I want be buying another Kitty Hawk, 1/32 after I get this one put together... Broke 3 of the 4 engine mount tubes trying to ether remove from the tree and or getting the mold injector remains off the tubes. Almost tossed the kit in the trash at that point. Now the enine mounts are very weak. hoping the cowl and the cowl ring will hold the engine in place, want be able to open the panels behine the engine. Will go back to my Tamiya 1/48 scales
