Rich in name only
Working on a 1/350 kit of a current ship officially referred to as small. Hull seemed as big as a WWII DD from memory so dug out some more hulls for comparison.
ikar
What ship is it and who does the kit?
Rich in name only
I thought you'd never ask---thought it might be interesting to guess the ships and kits first. The new "small" ship is USS Independence LCS-2. The center hull stands out with the sharply raked stem and bulbous bow. Kit is Cyber Hobby---nice. Others shown are DE England Trumpeter DD Benson Dragon DD Fletcher Tamiya (with 2 main guns mounted) DD Gearing Dragon DD Momsen Dragon (Burke class) CA San Francisco Trumpeter DD Ayanami FineMolds Gearing surprised me at having similar length to Fletcher. Wonder if one of them is out of scale or if it's really a Sumner.
Rich in name only
Got the Gearing out last evening. Put the Fletcher in the hull and the extra length is there. Haven't gotten the length between stacks checked yet. My photos have more parallax than I thought. The difference in Fletcher and Gearing appears like the stern areas in the photo first photo. Lots (!!! x lot more !!!) of small parts on Gearing. Box top says "over 430 parts". Need to get magnifying glasses to wear with my magnifier headband that I wear over my magnifying cheaters. Rich in name only
Some more comparison shots. Fletcher inside Gearing inside Indy. Fletcher in front of Gearing---not sure why first photo has good angle for comparison and this one went back to wide angle but note first photo hull lengths compared to this one, which helps show Gearing funnel distance is correct (allowing for parallax). Finally---in every Independence there is a hidden Zumwalt. Edited September 5, 2016 by Rich in name only
Rich in name only
That angle shift bugged me so tried again---camera did what I wanted this time. Ain't tech fun? Note kit baffles in Gearing funnels. They fit snugly but easily slide in--no slack once in---don't need glue 'cause funnel caps (glued) will hold them. Looking down you won't see the bottom without a light. Nice.
