ALF18
Hey folks. A few years back (Oct 2013), I posted a build thread in-progress with two 1/48 Kinetic Alpha Jets. I encountered several problems with how it went together, and it caused me some headaches and liberal use of filler. After that learning experience, I discovered ways to avoid those problems. I am currently building two more Alpha Jets in Discover Air Defence Services (DADS, or Top ACES) colours. You can find that thread here: http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index.php?showtopic=294411&st=0&gopid=2824065entry2824065 Many guys came away from seeing my initial builds when the kit came out as a cautionary tale, and some even said they would avoid the kit in favour of the Heller or Italeri versions (not sure if both made one in 1/48). I'm here to tell you today, as I near the completion of the build prior to painting, that it goes together fairly well if you follow a certain sequence and make sure certain parts are seated properly. The main problem is that the instructions are a bit vague in some areas, so that's why I did the above thread as a "how-to" for those who want to learn from my mistakes. And no, this is not a shameless attempt to generate views on my in-progress thread... Just making sure those who are interested can find it. ALF

mingwin
Cool! that new tail art was making me wish to build more than one Patrouille de France's Alphajet! i already own the caracal decal set... and was waiting for an updated sheet to show, before getting more kit... hope that kinetic will include the few required parts for the PAF Alphajet in the box. There will still be an updated Caracal sheet with the 2017 tail art later in Spring. You will also find that the decals in the upcoming Kinetic PAF boxing will look familiar. Ranger626
Alf, your post reminds me of this old saw: "A smart man learns from his mistakes. A brilliant man learns from someone else's mistakes." Your post allows other modelers to move a step towards brilliant. Thanks.

Awesome then! glad that while buying Kinetic's AlphaJet PAF special, i'll (kind of) support you
Colin K
I agree with you Dan! The Alpha Jet from Kinetic is a fantastic little kit. Granted, you have to pay attention to the instructions and some parts need to be wrestled into place, but, compared to the old Esci kit, this one builds into a nice looking model when it's done.
