Flankerman
It also doesn't appear to have the intake and exhaust for the APU in the tail boom.....????? Can anyone confirm ??? Ken

Flankerman
I scratched the APU intake on my 1/72 scale Italeri Su-34......... .... and used a silver decal for the exhaust on top....... It's a bit crude - but it looks OK in 1/72 scale. You could always cheat and just depict the red cover over the intake. Ken
gb_madcat_sl
Interesting. I found a couple of photos that show operational Su-34s without the APU intakes and exhausts. I'm curious as to why this is the case. Are these early production machines that did not have the APU installed? http://www.airliners.net/photo/Russia-Air-Force/Sukhoi-Su-34/2674796 http://www.airliners.net/photo/Russia-Air-Force/Sukhoi-Su-34/2771914 Mark
Flankerman
I don't know when it started, but all the latest Su-34's have the APU - and the upper wing fences. So you could model the HB kit as an earlier machine without the APU. I don't think I've ever seen an 'aubergine' example without an APU ?? Ken
joK
So.....is anyone already got the kit ? Edited October 21, 2016 by joK

Ken Well, the HB kit does include the wing fences so I guess we've got some sort of hybrid then. Mark
AnthonyWan
I think the APU intake would be better depicted as a PE part - a mesh and surround you could bend and attach to the model. Even die-cut vinyl would be better than a flat decal. The APU exahust on the other hand - looks much more flush to the fuselage. Ken - do you have any better photos or better yet, a "shape" drawing for it? Please email me- anthonywan2015@gmail.com Thanks! :)
Flankerman
Sorry Anthony - only what I have posted. The only time I got a chance to photograph the rear end of a 'new' Su-34 was at MAKS 2013 - and then it had the red cover over the APU !!! The only other pic I took shows the exhaust vent - which I presume hinges at the front and opens (?)..... Ken

Nope, this model possibly will be a one of for me so I am going to wait for kittyhawk for some time. Not years though, I give them 6-8 months until my current builds are finished. mungo1974
Well atleast the tailboom is a separate part going by the link above...so i guess a resin corrected APU boom will be along before too long...still would have been better if HB had got it right from the start given the price of the kit.. Add in a a whole new forward fuselage and the price would really be up there!

There seem to be some production aircraft without the APU installed. Note that they also do not have the wing fences installed and none of them are in the later midnight blue over light blue scheme. http://www.airliners.net/photo/Russia-Air-Force/Sukhoi-Su-34/2771914 http://www.airliners.net/photo/Russia-Air-Force/Sukhoi-Su-34/2631507 http://www.airliners.net/photo/Russia-Air-Force/Sukhoi-Su-34/2282460 Mark

Yes there were several early production airframes in the camo scheme that were later upgraded to include the APU and other features. Note that the upgraded versions have the bort number on the tail where the pre-upgrade didn't. *The kit decals for red 05 do not include the tail number so are 'accurate' for the pre-upgrade without the APU. *Edit #2: I looked again and the decal sheet does include small numbers for the tail so red 05 can be built in the upgraded form if you want to scratchbuild the upgrades. https://img-fotki.yandex.ru/get/28256/26380060.2a/0_ad029_88ed12b4_orig.jpg https://img-fotki.yandex.ru/get/51057/26380060.2a/0_ad024_218608fe_orig.jpg Edit: Sauce: http://wizarden.livejournal.com/115539.html Edited October 28, 2016 by Zactoman

757flyer
Mark, Many thanks. If I go back, I will try to get there. I had found one listed in a mall a block or two south of Fort Canning, but could never find it inside the mall itself... Mike
randypandy831
There was a big discussion about the pricing of trump/boss kits and came down to the US distributor "Stevens international" for the huge Mark up. Sending shipping containers across the pond isn't cheap.
DET1460
I've wanted one of these ever since the 72nd Italeri kit. But I resigned myself to waiting for the Kittuhawk due to the dismal (IMHO) record of TrumpyBoss quality. Their armor is usually very nice, but I think the guys who design the acft. kits have too much local wine at work. Or, maybe some Cambodian Red... Is anyone really surprised this kit has rather glaring errors in it? I have to say, I'm not,,, JMO DET1460
Fayfaychu
Not trying to start a flame war. Although everyone is not too fond of Trumpeter, but given Kitty Hawk's track record I am afraid its just a case of lesser of two evils IMHO (how bizarre this happens all the time these days).
