Stefan buysse
Hi, I was a bit surprised that I hadn't started a thread for the F-105 yet. Then I noticed that I took the picture on the 7th of September...just as the forums went off-line for a while. F-105D by StefanBuysse, on Flickr I had some time to do some modeling today and of all things, this one was the one I felt most like working on. Some minor stuff got done...some challenges were detected. I noticed that the metal nosegear has a small axle on both sides, so it will be impossible squeeze the wheel through there. I think I'll cut one axle off and attach the wheel to the remaining axle. I also noticed that the Master pitot is not a drop-in replacement for the Monogram part. Maybe it is intended for the Trumpeter kit. I'll attach the Monogram part, cut off the bit I can replace with the Master part, drill a hole and attach the Master pitot. Cheers, Stefan. RKic
I don't understand. Why can't the Monogram wheel go over the white metal axle?
Stefan buysse
Hi, The problem was that there is an axle on both sides, so the wheel was a bit too broad to sqeeze through. I have now found that the white metal is quite bendable, so I can open it up and close it again. Probably something that you can't do very often before you break it. nosewheel by StefanBuysse, on Flickr solution by StefanBuysse, on Flickr Cheers, Stefan.

RKic
Ah, understood! Yeah, don't do that too often. :o
mlicari
I faced that nose gear challenge a few years ago, and did exactly the same thing. Still holding strong, so don't worry about it! Love the Monogram F-105. I've built two and have the Thunderstick version in the stash, but the gear is the weak part (literally!) of the kit. Mike
Stefan buysse
Hi, Mike. Yeah, I love that kit as well. I found out the hard way back in 1987 that the gear is a weak point. It was a Call to glory" boxing of the F-105F and one of the main gears snapped off within a few weeks. Hard to believe it's nearly 30 years ago...and hard to believe I haven't finished another 1/48 F-105 in between. Cheers, Stefan.
