Spectre711
I also started this RoG F-4f that I'm going to use some Syhart decals on.

Kurt H.
nice start, looks like you got the initial required airbrushing done.
Spectre711
Just a note that the Syhart decals are sized up for the RoG Phantom kits. That's at least what they told me.
Spectre711
And a little progress on this one.

Spectre711
Radome painted and waiting for some blue.
Spectre711
I just shot some blue but I really wont know how I like it until I gloss it up.
Kurt H.
Looking good. Are you going to paint the natural metal area next, or is it masked?
Spectre711
I didn't realize that this MM insignia blue was going to come out so flat and I've have been slowly working to build up a nice Future gloss coat. After that my plans are to work on the burnt metal.

I was re-reading this thread and I saw this picture again and realized you pulled off quite a feat. I have this kit, and the lines for the canopy framing are so faint as to be almost no help for masking.
Spectre711
I hate masking canopies and actually found this one to be on the easier side. I actually masked them before I installed them and I think that may have made the diffferance. Slow go but after multiple light coats of Future I have a nice shiny Phantom. Kurt H.
Nice future application. that musta have taken quite a bit of patience to get it that shiny with light coats
Spectre711
Thanks, It does take some time but with a little care it comes out great. I figure I'm right on the edge of getting runs when I'm just about done. I use an old Badger 200 siphon fed brush. I put the Future in the jar with a few squirts of Windex and crank the air up to 40 psi. I start with a dusting and let it set up some and then come in a bit heavier with another coat. I've been doing this for a while and it is all by feel now. I think the Windex helps break the surface tension and the high psi helps with the atomization of the Future. Mike J. Idacavage
Your gloss coat looks great!! I have avoided using Future for some time as I could never get to to look smooth and shiny. I either got runs in the coat or it came out pebbly. I may need to reconsider after seeing your good looking Phantom! Have fun modeling Mike
Spectre711
It's one of those things you have to work with. I use a Badge 200 and what I do is to boost the psi to about 40. I give the Future a few squirts of windex and hit the model with a few dust coats. Once this sets up a bit I will hit it heaver and heaver. Once you get the process down it just comes second nature. I had to put a lot of coats on this one though. There is a fine line between good and getting runs but at least the runs clean up easily and touch up repairs are pretty easy. Spectre711
Don't think I've ever gotten through one of these long nose Phantoms without loosing a pitot tube. Lost this one some time yesterday.
Kurt H.
aww bummer. It is an imposible choice, put it on during assemby and ensure there is no seam, but risk breaking it, or add it later and have a seam? I hope you find it
Spectre711
Unfortunately I don't know when it happened or where it went. I'll have to look and see if I have something to use as a replacement or I could scavenge it out of an inbuilt kit.
Spectre711
Tough to get a good photo with the gloss but the decals are going on nicely.
