1/48 Hi-Vis F-14A Decals

Recommended Posts

First of all, many thanks to Furball and Fightertown for the new Tomcat sheets - I have purchased several!   So, with all the great new F-14A sheets featuring the LGG over White schemes, I figured I would ask the question of "what's missing"?  For me, I would love to see the LGG/White VF-114 scheme (the white, gray, and orange combo is super eye catching) as well as the Top Hatters Bicentennial scheme!

I guess I will stay busy in the meantime with all the great decal options, but like every good modeler, I want more!!!  Anyone else feel this way?

Furball has the VF-14 Bicentennial jet just out - F/D&S-4810 is the sheet.

I would like the VF-14 70th Anniversary markings, although it would be an easy enough DIY decal project...

I just bought the Furball sheet you mentioned - thanks!  It would be awesome if someone did the "full" bi-centennial scheme with the blue nose ring that had the stars on it and the bicentennial tail flash (I think Hasegawa had this scheme in one of their 72nd re-releases a few years back).

Also VF-213 in their initial F-14A scheme with the blue fins.   I think that VF-213 was the sister squadron with VF-114 on the Kitty Hawk when they first got their Tomcats.  And of course VX-4 in their gray/white aircraft with the blue band on the nose

Microscale Decals may have been the first company to release aftermarket sheets for the Tomcat in the late 1970s.

They have just re-released a couple of these early decal sheets in 1/48 (and 1/72), no doubt to coincide with the arrival of the Tamiya F-14A.

Here are links to the quarter scale offerings...

Strictly speaking, the subjects depicted are all early airframes, but by creative Modex and BuNo manipulation, you could do a "mid-block" bird, as Tomcat squadrons then were often comprised of mixed batches of aircraft, not all of which had been updated yet to a common standard.

Super Scale did these a number of years back, 48-362. Its the VF-14 70th Anniversary, and VF-111 Miss Molly. Fightertown also did the 80th Anniversary on 48-035, (along with the 90th on the Super Hornet)
