rom
Hi! As a Flanker addict I will stick around for sure! Flankerman
Welcome Mr Mustang - clearly a man of impeccable taste I did the 1/72 scale version some time ago as bort red 36 - Lt Tsymbal's machine that collided with a RNoAF P-3C Orion. I modified the port fin tip to replicate the damage caused by the collision...... I don't know if it's the same in the 1/32 scale kit - but Trumpeter got the nosewheel wrong in the 1/72 scale version. It should have an early 3-hole anti-FOD guard - not the later one-hole type in the kit.... I used a replacement nosewheel from an Airfix Flanker.- - grafted onto the kit upper leg. To get really anal - the mainwheels are wrong as well - they should also be the earlier type hub with a central cooling vent..... Trumpeter may have got them right in the 1/32 scale kit - or it might not bother you - I'm just trying to be helpful. Happy Flankering... Ken

Mister Mustang
Thanks for the warm welcome boys!! thanks very much!! OK, now about my Flanker...... I started with the wings..... I trimmed the hinges so that I can slide them in the slots after I glued the wings and slats together. Like so.....
Mister Mustang
I wanted to get those fiddly hinges out of the way as soon as possible. And I get to remove two big sprues from the box. And now on to 'Z'man intakes..... Step 1 The drafting lead holder is pointing to where the resin splitter plate standoff ends..... You can make the kit standoff meet the resin standoff by marking as I have with the lead holder......
Mister Mustang
And carefully removing the kit standoff..... Like so, Or.... Just remove all of the kit standoff, like so. This is the fit of the intakes in the splitter plate standoff area with a very small amount of pressure to close the gap. And this is the fit of the Intakes without the splitter plate....and very little pressure!! Very nice work 'Z'man!! Thanks!! That's all for now folks!
rom
nice work!
Mister Mustang
Hi, Fit the Aires rear deck (fit is good) and the Aires side panels. You need to remove the upper edge on the kit to get the Aires panels to fit. Like so......... And again.....
Mister Mustang
marking the top edge that needs to go Dry fitting the pit......and it's sitting a little low, you can see the gap at the back. So we removed about .070 of an inch on the bottom of the side panels And trimmed down the cockpit tub on the sides
Mister Mustang
And it's acceptable now, we closed the gap somewhat. And shot some Alclad white aluminum on the intake parts And Alclad dark aluminum on the exhaust cans, I was going to spray steel color, but it was to dark for me.
Mister Mustang
Or this might be better, Alclad steel was too dark for the first color. We are going to work from light to dark so I wanted a very light color to start with... I was thinking about doing a Flanker with the early stinger and using 'Z'man's tail mod but this is the bird that does it for me so...... this is the color scheme we will shoot for Thank you Rom! Later boys

My intakes were designed to fit the original configuration. I did a pic showing the modification required after the re-tooling and posted it on my website, but never printed an addendum of my instruction sheet. Flankerman
Here's my pic of bort 28 - taken on the ramp at Monino in 2004.... Great idea for a diorama - where you don't have to detail the cockpit - just put a bag over it !!! It also explains why the front end has fresher, less faded paintwork than the rear! Happy Flankering Ken Edited November 20, 2016 by Flankerman

Mister Mustang
Hi, Update, Just plodding along........... I want to use the Eduard scuff plates so...... The rudder bar needs to be removed.
Mister Mustang
There wasn't any space between the rudder pedals and the floor. So...... And the fit is good. They need to be cut down.
Mister Mustang
And the Eddie IP needs to be trimmed too..... To fit this
Mister Mustang
The Eddie IP looks great! Unfortunately it's the wrong color.. Doh!!
