pookie
That's one of the reasons pre-shading makes models look like toys.
Alpagueur
wow great pic, thanks for sharing! How to get that effect on a model? mig weathering set? [ Edited November 18, 2016 by Alpagueur
pookie
If you use water base acrylics, all you need is the paints you already have. Take the paint you used to cover the model and make a few small batches of different tones by adding black to some paint and white to another batch. ( you can also add small amounts of blue or red, etc) Dilute the paint with water and put a tiny amount of dish washing soap to make the paint lay flat...and have at it. A brush works just fine, in fact it works better than an airbrush. You can't go wrong. Just keep it random and avoid doing the same weathering on one wing as the other. I did this in five minutes with a brush and some diluted darker/lighter paint Edited November 20, 2016 by pookie
Darren Roberts
Nicely done. You're essentially making a "filter", much like the armor guys do.

Slartibartfast
Thanks, Scooby. I seem to remember reading of that event quite some tima ago. Always faithful indeed. Do wingtip pods get fitted to E/A-18 only? Consistent practice would make for easier ident to Growler uninitiates like me.
USAFsparkchaser
Does MIG make an acrylic wash kit? I use enamel paints and watch a video on YouTube were the guy used the enamel wash and the finished product looked awsome. If MIG does have an acrylic wash will it look the same as the enamel one? Ensign Brown was the first black naval aviator. An outstanding biography is The Flight of Jesse Leroy Brown by Theodore Taylor; Well written, I highly recommend this book. Another book on the subject is Devotion by Adam Makos, which I'm looking forward to reading...
