Great Navy Hornet (and others) Weathering Ref Shot

Recommended Posts

I know the F-35's paint is supposed to be much more durable than the F-22's ...

Other than that its probably allot of "Secret Squirrel" information ...

If it's just dirt, we'll see a picture of the crew washing it away sooner or later.

By the way, I love the look of the beefier landing gear on the C; it also has more inspiring weathering and markings.

Thanks for sharing, Gregg and Solo.

"Cat 4 No Go"????

Aircraft with certain ordnance loads are not allowed to be catapulted off of CAT 4, hence the "CAT 4 No Go" being written in chalk on the radome. This is to tell the Cat Crew that that aircraft is restricted from CAT 4.

Interesting, never seen that before.   Assume then that CAT 4 has a little bit less "umph" than the other cats on the boat?   Would make for a nice touch on my upcoming SH build. Nice scorch/weathering on the radome of that jet as well.

It has nothing to do with the catapult itself, all CAT's are the same on a carrier. It has to do with if the aircraft has a catastrophic landing gear failure and the obstacles along the deck edge.

Basically, if the left gear compresses completely, blows a tire, collapses, etc, certain things on the left wing won't have enough clearance to prevent hitting some stuff along the deck edge.

Is that jet configured as a tanker? Is "4 Wet" one of those Cat 4 no-go configurations?

That jet is a EA-18G Growler so they would not be authorized for the 5 wet configuration. For the Super Hornet, the 5 wet configuration is not restricted from CAT 4.

For everyone's FYSA: the ordnance load restrictions are specific to each carrier so you have to know what carrier and ordnance load in order to to determine if the load is restricted.

Along with what GW said, particular configs don't allow proper clearance for kids poking their heads up through hatches in the LA.

Cheers
