Did the refueling probe get caught up in the basket on that last S-3? It's looking decidedly unicorn-ish. 🦄

Yes it did.  Pilot (who will remain nameless)...was on the KC-135 and started slipping/falling out of the basket...with a downward vector.  Bent the probe almost straight up.  SNODS and I crept up behind them in the overhead and I snapped this pic.

Cheers

Welcome back Gregg, I've never commented on your updates but have always cruised through the photos. Almost a daily ritual too.

So I hope all is well now and you are on the road to recovery!

From a very appreciative ARCer

F-18 loadout always seem to be splayed outwards. Is it an illusion due to the shape of the aircraft? How does that hamper or supplement aerodynamics of the aircraft?

The Super Hornets wing pylons are in fact angled out. I believe it’s 4 degrees from the center line. I’ve read the reason, but unfortunately can’t recall exactly why. It is related to aerodynamics though…but might have been for the airframe, or something about separation of stores when released.

I believe it was for stores separation.  Why it is different from legacy hornets is a mystery.

I believe allot of that due to the new shape of the intakes and lower fuselage of the Supers ...
