Great Navy Hornet (and others) Weathering Ref Shot

Recommended Posts

Probably stickers from a Gerber machine.

Submitting because a) Harriers are cool and, b) interesting to see the fading of the old markings and looks like removal of the VMFA emblem.

Cheers

That's the first picture I've seen of a -131 Super Hornet. What's interesting is that there are all kinds of new markings for Super Hornet squadrons, yet virtually no new decals. I'm assuming because they don't sell very well.

Darren,

When Top Gun 2 comes out we'll probably see some interest in Super Hornets. I worked at a hobby shop in Riverside in 1986 when Top Gun was released. We couldn't keep Tomcats on the shelves. It seemed everybody and their pet chimp wanted a Tomcat model.

Interesting big black blotches on the wing walkways. Wonder what caused that?

Those are land based Rafales. Rafale B's of the French Armee de l'Air. Nice shots though.

I think of all the squadrons flying the Super Hornet, this is the nicest set of markings. They transferred from the Tomcat very nicely.

Shooting the gun trashes the aircraft and is a huge PITA to clean off.

We used to spray oil (VV-L-800 (military's version of WD-40)) to help lessen the amount of crap we would have to clean.

Probably a bit of a leaky gun hydraulic system, just enough to keep the bottom moist to catch gun blast and a base that is under water restrictions and will not allow a A/C wash.
