trietmcam
I studied some photos of how the weathered Bearcat looked during the Indochina time frame. Most of the aircraft were parked in the open dirt field, unsheltered. Most had badly dusted and grime built up along with lots of chipping. I used MM magnesium Metalizer to dry brush along the surfaces. I didn't want to use aluminum because it had too much contrast. Magnesium is darker, and looked about the right contrast to me. trietmcam
The rest of the model was done with Tamiya weather sets of various colors.
trietmcam
I just build up fading a little at a time, as I didn't want the weathering to be over done.
trietmcam
Final stages. I probably stop adding weather effect here. Edited January 1, 2017 by trietmcam
trietmcam
Stick a fork in and call it done. After languishing a few years, it's finally done. The tires just need to flatten yet. Can't say I would to do this kit again. Definitely not your beginners kit, as it requires a great deal of careful fitting. Cleaning each parts off the sprue trees tested my patience with the prop being the worst one. If you can master those, you will end up with a nice finished model. I didn't check for accuracy. I heard many manufacturers had difficulty with the overall shapes, whether in 1/72 or 1/48. Somehow I lost interest in the kit before and never bothered to check against the drawing plan. If you did, let me know how this kit measures up. But it looked like the profile is pretty decent.
trietmcam
Hope you like the build. Regards Triet
trietmcam
Some close view of small pieces. Note the stencils on the rockets. Close view of the canopy. The vertical frames were actually decals I painted. This hides the uneven cut I made on the vac formed. The rest of the frames were just normal masking and spray on paint. Close view of the lens. Overall birds eyes view
dekon70
That looks fantastic. I think you nailed the weathering. Also a great write up on how you did the antenna. I'm going to have to use your method.
trietmcam
Thanks dekon.
let_models
Super F-8F Triet. I know what you went through. Wow what's a nightmare kit you have Triet!.. but you pulled it off with an awesome Bearcat. Greats work! Regarding the antenna I always used 'fake hair' (you can get at dollar store) it small and look good on 1/72 scale. ..shuuttt I didn't say very loud, hope nobody hear it! let,
