It's with Donnie Yen and it does have the most realistic martial arts medieval combat scenes i have seen (especially the ones with a guandao), without any wire-works or flying guy, 100% realistic. And the story and the movie is good too, well filmed, very well acted, and it is not entirely a fiction, these people are important figures from China's history. Guan Yu as i found out from a related movie, was one of the 5 Tiger Generals, and believe it or not, that story happened nearly 2000 years ago ! The other thing i didn't know is that Donnie Yen is also makes the martial arts fight choreography for a lot of Chinese movies, including many of the movies in which he is acting. Turns out that in China, fight choreographers is different than in the United States. In China, the fight choreographer have complete control over camera angles, camera position and so on. He basically becomes the film director for the movie for those scenes. Turns out Donnie Yen obtained many prizes for his fight choreography. His name is Jiang Wen. My jaw nearly dropped to the floor, i thought: Are you kidding me ?! The document said both him AND Donnie Yen have been chosen to be in the latest Star Wars movie, Rogue One...!! That kind of thing is no coincidence. Someone, Rogue One's film director or the casting director saw The Lost Bladesman and decided to cast both of them in it. No doubt. Jiang Wen plays general Cao Cao in The Lost Bladesman, and his acting is very good. (Note: since i wrote this i have seen previews from Rogue One (though i have not seen the whole film yet), and i must say theire talent seems to be under-used in Rogue One. Their true acting talent is much more visible in The Lost Bladesman. Another thing worth noting: Donnie Yen played in the series of movies Ip Man (the famous martial arts master who taught to Bruce Lee). My wife tuned me up to it, as i was not aware of this. plane bum Posted January 21, 2017 Share Posted January 21, 2017 I bought this movie 4 years ago and loved it and you mentioned ip man i have all 3 with donnie yen plus the other 2 donnie is working on a 4th ip man movie you should check out bodyguards and assassins its to have the longest fight scene in movie history.
