Jasta 5 Albatros photo

Recommended Posts

Hi Bentley,

That is the basic Jasta 5 scheme: The red-outlined green tail feathers.  Each pilot in the Jasta added his own, often flamboyant markings, so there is a lot to choose from.  If you go here, you will find some period photos as well as some artwork for some of the schemes.

There are a number of decal companies that have options for Jasta 5 aircraft.  Pheon Decals of the UK has one 48th sheet dedicated to just Jasta 5 and three more in the works:

And, if you have the Wingnuts 32nd kit, he has several options:

But the most spectacular option:

Hope this is some help, though probably it just makes life more difficult - so many choices!

Cheers,

Tom

Nicely presented, valuable post, Tom. Too bad Bentley didn't see it.

The top posted picture is from Rise of Flight, the finest WWI flight simulation out there. That particular aircraft is listed as "Unknown Pilot". The skins in that simulation are an excellent source of markings for scale modelers (including me since I use them in building WWI Radio Control models). For example, here's the subject as presented in the Game Viewer, followed by the skin:

Jasta%20V%20Unknown%20Pilot%205%20Copy.j

In the Viewer, one can zoom in/out (including going through the skin to see limited internal structure), rotate, and also play animation as guns firing, flight controls moving, and gear shock absorbing, among other things.

Note that individual skin pieces above are not to the same scale (easily resized over a scale 3 view).

Hi Gene,

Fancy meeting you here! Interesting stuff.Hadn't heard of Rise of Flight, downloading it now.  I actually quite liked Microsoft Flight Sim Hated Il-2 Stormovik - wings stiff as a brick at low airspeed, and super-sensitive at high IAS.  Completely backwards!

As to Bentley, I wonder if he is one of those who don't feel the need to acknowledge any help they get, there are a lot of them.

Didn't know you were an RC guy.  My late brother was, too, and I have all his stuff.  Any interest in a half built "Giant Scale" TopFlite Stinson Reliant, or know someone who might be?  My brother was a craftsman and it is nice work.  I really want to find it good home, but all the local guys are ARF/RF guys.  PM me if you have any interest and I'll send photos.

Cheers,

Tom
