phantom
Well, that won't take long to finish! Welcome aboard.
Trojan Thunder
Thanks Shaun, I think the longest part of the build will be all the masking for the paint work. Something I usually lose interest in very quickly if things start to go wrong. I also have some AM Aztec decals for the saucer I might try out.
MHaz
You might want to try the dorsal correction set from the Starship Modeler store. Well worth the cost.

Trojan Thunder
Did some masking and started the paint, then quickly ran out of white.... off to the LHS for a restock.
phantom
Amazing what a coat of paint can do, keep it up!
Trojan Thunder
I now see why Shaun picks the subjects he does, no damn masking! I started with the primary hull, the first of many colours.. Sprayed with a dull blue which turned out to be too dark So I turned to mask the warp nacelles and add the blue Tried a lighter shade here but I think it is too bright, I also tried to tone the darker blue on the primary hull dow by over spraying with white, not the result I wanted. looks like a remask and re evaluation of the blue required. Trojan Thunder
Primary hull remasked and resprayed the same colour as the warp nacelle assembly. Looks like I am going with this blue.
Trojan Thunder
And masking off. Now to let the paint dry and I will turn my attention to the blue sections on the saucer section now.
phantom
That is some good quality masking right there!!
Trojan Thunder
Saucer section masking and paint and masking and then it all came off I think I spent 5-6 hours just masking so far which is the majority of the build time. Next more masking... usually I dread it but the is a sense of satisfaction with this as is there have been relatively few stuff ups so far (well just the one where I used too dark a shade of blue on the primary hull and had to re-mask and paint it). More to follow Edited January 16, 2017 by Trojan Thunder

Trojan Thunder
Have not done much to her lately, still need to decal and clear coat
Trojan Thunder
And ....started decalling, this is the start of an aftermarket Alps printed Aztec pattern sheet from the stash. Not as comprehensive as the sheets available today as it only covers the saucer section (the sheet is dated 2000 from PCModeller.com). The sheet is made up of alternating wedge-shaped sections, 2 designs for the top and 2 for the bottom. Lots of cutting and test fitting before dunking in water and the first pattern on top done... Trojan Thunder
Saucer section decalling complete, I applied 35 different decal parts tot eh top of the saucer and 22 to the bottom. Each had to be individually cut out. Liberal amounts of setting solution applied. Now to apply the kit supplied decals and seal it all. Also had to make repairs, warp nacelles had separated and needed reattaching. Edited February 8, 2017 by Trojan Thunder
phantom
For KIT decals those are top notch!
Trojan Thunder
Shawn, the Aztec decals were an aftermarket sheet, I have just added the kit supplied decals (well the ones I did not destroy in the process). With an older fleet member Just need to bed the latest decals down with MicroSol and hit it with a sealing coat. Most likely won't happen this weekend as it is due to hit 40 Degrees plus here
