Platycqb
Hello, I have a question for our local Sukhoi experts. I was looking again in my stash at the Su-35S and looking at pictures from Syria, I noticed that the kit from Hasegawa has the chaff/flare launchers located on top/above the "sting" (as on the Bort 07 plane with the eggplant camouflage), whereas most pictures are showing the launchers loacted under the sting. Was there an evolution of the design? And was it applied to all Su-35S in service or only applied on a certain batch/randomly? Thanks!
Berkut
This was a change that happened from 2014 batch and onwards.

A corollary question would be: was there any Su-35S with the first launchers location deployed to Syria? From another discussion, I got the registrations/bort numbers of the planes deployed in 2015-2016. But does it help identifying the construction batch/period? End of 2015- 2016 02517 ● Su-35S №03 Red / RF-95813 02518 ● Su-35S №04 Red / RF-95814 02619 ● Su-35S №05 Red / RF-95815 02620 ● Su-35S №06 Red / RF-95816 Rotation end of 2016 03309? ● Su-35S №50 Red / RF-81717 03310? ● Su-35S №51 Red / RF-81718 03411? ● Su-35S №52 Red / RF-81719 03412? ● Su-35S №53 Red / RF-81720 All planes apparently from the 23rd Fighter Aviation Regiment
kotey
Second batch in theory now belonged to the 23-th FAR, but board numbers and RF register from 159-th FAR.
Platycqb
Gah, even more confusing now! Edited January 6, 2017 by Platycqb
kotey
23-th FAR is leader in operation of Su-35Ss, so this second batch for Syria were donated to 23-th FAR, but in future, ater return from Syria, this aircrafts probably will be deploy to Besovets. Or to Besovets will donate another Su-35Ss with same board numbers in 2017.

Berkut
To be fair, practically nobody out there would be able to tell a difference. :) So it comes down to if it will personally torture you or not. Also; if you are going to build any of the 2016 rotation birds (5X b/n), they have some other modifications beyond the flare boxes. Also please post it when you are finished with it, not too many Su-35S builds out there. Edited January 7, 2017 by Berkut
Platycqb
Ah ah, so true. And would you care elaborate a tad about the further mods encountered on recent Su-35? Just for everybody's knowledge. :) Thanks again for all the information anyway.
kotey
BTW as i know all previouse batches of Su-35Ss will be upgraded up to 2016s level www.forums.airforce.ru/attachments/matchast/74628d1476511423-02.jpg Edited January 8, 2017 by kotey

Previously they have been using electrical heating for windshield but now moved back to the original solution of using alcohol. Original for flanker family that is, until 2016 batch all Su-35S' used electrical heating. Alcohol bottle is on the front landing gear door, note the lack of the wires on the windshield; http://russianplanes.net/id202965 Some other changes too, but internally. 9 hours ago, kotey said: BTW as i know all previouse batches of Su-35Ss will be upgraded up to 2016s level www.forums.airforce.ru/attachments/matchast/74628d1476511423-02.jpg They have indeed been reworking all the previously built frames (some has been sent twice i believe!) but not sure about 2016 standard in particular, ie with the alcohol bottle and new windscreen etc. Edited January 8, 2017 by Berkut

Ah I had been wondering about the bottle appearing in more recent pics indeed. Now it does make sense. Thanks!
