Intruder 1/48...what is recommended?

Recommended Posts

Hello all

Inspired by "wardog's" out of this world build thread and since I have never had an Intruder so far...I bought a Hobby Boss A-6E TRAM kit (cheap). I would like to end up with a normal A-6E on USS Nimitz in 1978 to stand next to my in progress Jolly Rogers Tomcat from Tamiya.

The kit arrived last week and at first inspection looks very good. Internet reviews are also quite favourable. At a second glance I somehow find the cockpit a bit flat...not sure if express myself correctly here. The details are nice but somehow lack the 3D effect. The throttle quadrant seems to be very small...

In order to improve that (do I have to or is the cockpit really that flat?) I think I have a couple of choices:

1. Get an Eduard set and bolster up the sub panels with plastic card

2. By a Black Box resin pit

3. By a Wolfpack pit

4. Improve the kit supplied pit...I am open for examples to look at here.

I also noted that for example the "old" Monogram main LG legs look a lot busier then the kit supplied ones. It's a shame that break lines and hoses, that were standard with Monogram, are not being supplied nowadays.

Anyway, open to suggestions in how/if to improve on that kit. Timeframe will be spring time...March or so. I first have to finish AJ200 :-)

thanks

Uwe

If you think the cockpit lacks 3D effect why on earth would you want to add flat Eduard parts to it? :D

Add some details yourself. It would look great and would probably be less work than trying to fit a resin pit.

Uwe,

I've build the Revell kit, and I've added a whole plethora of aftermarket sets to it:

I've bought Hypersonic Models' exhaust, which are a must.

Clickie there!

I've also gotten the Verlinden Upgrade set from someone who didn't know what he got; he sold it to me for 5 quid! :woot.gif:

Added the Paragon Flap and Slat set and the DMold seamless suckers.
