Italeri 1/48 AB-212 ASW

Recommended Posts

Well I am happy to see this even though I am pretty sure that it is a re-box with added parts. I had started to gather the info on the mods required to do the AB-212 when they issued the UH-1N so this just saved me a bunch of work.

Still have to find some interesting schemes instead of the overall blue and white. Any camo versions out there?

Italy, Peru and Turkey operated them in a Engine Grey/Red scheme before going "low viz"

The Iranians probably have the most interesting scheme though

The kit seems to come with Italian and Spanish markings. I will definitely consider making decals for any Italian schemes not covered by kit decals, Turkey, Iran, Venezuela and Greece.

Was hoping you may say that, the original Engine Grey with high viz markings would particularly go down well here.

Would that not be the reissue of the ESCI kit?

probably , but it is nice

Right! Since Italeri also rereleased the Esci Kiowa, one would expect the JetRanger to be ex- Esci too. A, despite its age, very fine kit imho.

Only parts that would probably be incorrect nowadays, could be the windows that on the newer 206's bulge outward, and the landing gear: on newer JetRangers, the skids are longer and the overall landing gear a bit sturdier.

This makes me so happy!

Is the rotor mast the correct height? All the Esci photos I've seen show it to be really squat.

I would think so Zac, although I have never measured it. Lengthening the mast or mounting it a tad higher would be possible without too much of a hassle I would think.

Italeri changed the weapons sprues through the different versions they released.

The original Italeri 1/48 UH-1N #847 has the miniguns and rocket pods. The Heller kit #80413 is the same as the Italeri kit #847.

Italeri later rereleased the UH-1N as the AB-212/UH-1N #2692 and changed the weapons sprues. Different guns are included and they eliminated the rocket pods .

You will have the basic AB-212/UH-1N from the ASW version. Just leave off the ASW parts. Probably no weapons though that were in their previous versions.
