How accurate is this paint guide for Su-27

Recommended Posts

most of the pics I see of the Su-27 are painted in 2 blues and a grey, this one says intermediate blue over a light blue grey. I havent been able to find any actual photos of this particular jet. can anyone shed some light on this for me?

this very subject is like all the other Russian Su-27 you've already seen. the kit you use have a wrong color call...(more the colors of the Su-27SM...and looks like they find their references on Wings palette...)

here's Begemot color call for the same aircraft (subject #2) ...a bit more convincing, even if it's not a photo...

The HB markings are make-believe, IMO. The Begemot diagram is much more trust worthy, and accurate. Note that the banner on the tail of the HB diagram is on the wrong side of the jet! (That's the biggest, most obvious gaff on their part) Use Begemot if you want to do that jet....

thanks for the replies guys. having looked at several pictures of Su-27's online it seems that the grey fades quickly and almost blends in with the rest of the blues. I think I am just going to build up a generic jet.

Here are a couple photos of a Flanker I did last year, all I did was eye ball a basic mix of each color, and then adjust the tones with various shades of blues and greys since the real thing gets weathered and faded pretty extensively over time.  If you're into weathering Flankers are a great subject and really help teach airbrush control since so much of it is a random mottling.  They can actually be good practice for German WWII Luftwaffe mottling.
