11bee
http://www.cnn.com/2017/03/16/americas/drone-shot-by-patriot-missile-trnd/ Makes for a nice clickbait news story. Of course if that $200 drone was used to call in a rocket / artillery strike that took out an entire armored battalion (as had happened in the Ukraine), the press might look at this in a different light. Counter-UAV weapons are truly on the cutting edge, the US has deployed a few interesting ones over in Iraq / Syria.
ikar
Just a bit of over-kill on that one.

Johnopfor
I'm willing to bet that it may have been the Israelis, and it wouldn't be the first time that they did it....... http://www.jpost.com/Arab-Israeli-Conflict/Israeli-fighter-jet-shoots-down-Hamas-drone-over-Gaza-468208 http://nationalinterest.org/feature/israel-almost-shot-down-russian-drone-17390 http://www.cbsnews.com/news/israel-says-it-downed-drone-fired-from-gaza/
habu2
Does Israel have the Patriot ? Thought they had their own system, Arrow.
11bee
Yeah, they've got various Patriot versions plus their own systems. Apparently just used Arrow 3 for the first time to destroy a Syrian SAM missile.

They have several batteries equipped with modified PAC 2 missiles. The Arrow system is deployed for the ballistic missile threat, the Patriot is deployed for anti-aircraft duties. You make a good point about the danger of the Intel feed It drives me crazy when news just talks about cost vs cost like that without actually talking about the dangers even a "cheap threat" can bring. There was a real "let's do this on cheap" mentality with UBL. Guess what that ended up costing us?
