Patriot shoots down $200 drone!

Makes for a nice clickbait news story.  Of course if that $200 drone was used to call in a rocket / artillery strike that took out an entire armored battalion (as had happened in the Ukraine), the press might look at this in a different light. 

 

Counter-UAV weapons are truly on the cutting edge, the US has deployed a few interesting ones over in Iraq / Syria.

They have several batteries equipped with modified PAC 2 missiles. The Arrow system is deployed for the ballistic missile threat, the Patriot is deployed for anti-aircraft duties.

You make a good point about the danger of the Intel feed 

 

It drives me crazy when news just talks about cost vs cost like that without actually talking about the dangers even a "cheap threat" can bring. 

 

There was a real "let's do this on cheap" mentality with UBL. Guess what that ended up costing us?
