Ranger626
I have seen photos of the double store carrier on Canadian and German F-104's. Can anyone tell me if any other NATO F-104 operators used the double store carrier and for what stores? Photos?
phantom
I would guess, anyone who bought our star fighters second hand. Turkey, Denmark, Norway. Mostly dumb bombs and bomblet canisters. Not sure about rocket pods.
Finn
The TSC - Twin Stores Carrier - could carry bombs or rocket pods. For the CF-104 we had the Mk-82, BL-755, Mk-20 and the LAU-3/5003 rocket pods. Jari
Bobo1953
hi ranger. if i get properly the "double store" concept, you can have a look to this aeronautica militare italiana f-104 asa=Aggiornamento Sistemi d'Arma (weapon systems update) with sidewinders at the wing-tips and...no, it isn't a sparrow albeit an "aspide", a locally improved aim 7, plus two unused (most likely used for drop tanks) wing pylons. i have seen also a scheme with 2 aim-9 on wingtips, 2 aim-7 and 2 god-only-knows on wing pylons. sorry, i can't get the link ttto this. hth. ciao. bobo. Bobo1953
ranger, here is the link to the enlarged scheme: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/44/Lockheed_F-104_STARFIGHTER.png it's 2 aim-9 wingtips,+ 2 on pylons + 2 aim-7/aspide on pylons. i don't know wether this configuration ever got operatioal or it's only theorethical. ciao again. bobo. phantom
Yeah, that is an S model. Not the way our twin carrier looks. I am not able to post an example right now.
bdt13
Picture of an F-104G with twin carrier click here
Paolo Maglio
I would say Canada and Germany only. Never seen on Turkish or Danish Starfighters.
Bobo1953
me neither have ever seen such a thing on our f-104s S, and if paolo says theis, you can be sure. pete told me that he lives in an air force base or the like... :-) anyway, to place bombs on a starfighter has always looked to me ike attaching a plow to a race horse... ciao. bobo. tobiK
The DLT (Doppellasträger) came 1975 in service with GAF. Besides Cluster bombs, dumb bombs, also rocket pods could be attached. Bombs: Matra Sprengbombe Typ 25E, Hunting Engineering BL 755 cluster bomb, Napalmcontainer (341 kg) - firebomb, Rocket pods: LAU 51 (LAU 32 maybe, too. I have no evidence for it). Leuchtbombe: Lepus (80 kg) - used for illumination of the battlefiled
